So, I sadly ended my much too short 2 year streak of no trackday incidents... and of course it happened with the brand new (to me) bike. Got caught out by the complexity of the NYST track - braking zones and drops over hills are tough! Locked up a front and it was over very quickly.
I'm not too broken up about it. I shouldn't have gotten a mint bike, but... I really wanted it. Oh well.
It's largely fine, but I now have the "opportunity" to upgrade the exhaust and a few other things.
I really want a low mount. Like REALLY. The weight wins me over, and the looks and additional luggage capabilities seal the deal. If I'm going to get something other than stock, it pretty much needs to be a low mount.
Also, I have a big hate on loud exhausts. They piss off the neighbors, piss off cars, and attract too much attention. I had a LOUD DRZ as my first bike, and found that all it did was limit my fun. Everyone knew where I was and what I was doing, which is the opposite of what I want. I'd prefer as close to stock volume levels as possible.
Options:
1) Replace the mangled can with stock. This is the cheap option, like $200 for a used one in good shape. But meh. Clearly not low mount, clearly heavy.
2) Arrow low mounts. Holy shit expensive. I refuse to pay $1k+ for an exhaust, but I can't seem to find anything used for less at the moment. Sound with baffles is supposed to be only slightly louder than stock.
3) Competition Werkes. Looks fantastic (better than the Arrow in my opinion) and the price is right ($450ish). But... the noise! Everyone says without baffles it is insanely loud, and I can't seem to find a consensus on with baffles. Anyone familiar with this exhaust?
4) Custom. So, I can weld, and have access to the TIG welder at work. I've done thin wall welding work before (FSAE chassis and exhaust). It could be a nice project to do myself. But, I likely won't have time until this winter and I'm terribly rusty at welding (been a few years), so it will take me a few tries to get something looking decent. The current exhaust still works, so I would just bend it into good enough shape until I have the time. Material costs will add up, especially if it's too loud/ugly the first few tries.
Thoughts?
What about something I don't know about?
I have a CRM can and love it. But you can't get them anymore.![]()
Sad... saw that exhaust, and liked it as well.
Also, I forget that there is a lot of the same crowd over here. Trying out this whole NESR thing now that I've moved and finally started missing the local motorcycle group stuff.
the competition werkes sound real good but they are a bit too loud actually. I also like the rough finnish look of the comp werkes but i think the arrows sound a bit more civilized. You can find some deals on the arrow pipes on ebay if your patient.

There is only a slight difference in sound with baffels or db killers as they are sometimes called. I had a low mount Arrow on my previous MV Agusta Brutale. Looked killer and was loud (which Im NOT opposed to) with the db killers in, its a bit quieter but its still much louder than stock. Hope this helps.
Big ups to the Arrow low mount, i have one on my Speedy. Nice subtle grunt down low but it screams at WOT, also a decent bump in power with the header, cat deleted mid pipe, and a tune.
CW is killer on looks, users are reporting a 15% drop in noise with baffle in.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
The Arrow high mount on my Speed is a lot quieter with the baffles in. I put them in once.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
If you can weld make an Akrapovic megaphone fit. Would look sick with the lines of the bike, lightweight, cheap, and has a removable baffle.

Friend of mine has this brand pipe of her Speed Triple, although not sure which one exactly. She leaves the baffle in to keep the noise down and has no issues with doing so. Check them out.
