I get to Baer Cycle today for the annual inspection of my baby....well I get there and John (my salesman) comes outside and smell something funny...they take the bike inside. They look at it, everything is fine until they get to look under the fairings.....there was something leaking on the motor or something. You know, that part that contains the pistons? Anyway, the first guy tought it was corrosion from a gasket that could have exploded and tells me that it's baaaadddddd....so 2 other guys come to look at it, and they find out it's the coolant tube that got loose, and the fluid spurt all over. They had to take off the gaz tank, and tight up the tube, clean the motor, etc.
They told me this happend because someone at the factory didn't do their job properly when assembling the bike....damn. I was pissed. THey told me it's a good thing they caught it early becasue it could have been worse. Actually, the level of coolant was half way down UNDER the low level!!!!![]()
Everything is fine now, big thanks to the guys at Baer Cycle.![]()

don't those fancy liquid cooled bike (heheh) have a place to check coolent levels so you could notice it? or did it all happen on the way there?

Nikon, what could have happened??

i think i'm gonna make it a habbit to check oil & coolant each time i fill up my tank (about every 100 miles... which is like every 2-3 days)

yeah I guess you should....having a new bike (2003) and it's never been beaten up, I didn't think I'd have problems so soon with it...I had the speedometer cable falling down the ground last year, luckily for me, my friend was riding behind me and saw the sparks on the asphalt and had me move aside the road...all this for people not doing their job correctly at the factory assembling the bike....Originally posted by OreoGaborio

...that baby is starting to give me nightmares....
A loose hoseclamp was a product of the DEALERSHIP not doing a thorough job assembling the bike...
Once assembled AT THE DEALERSHIP, they should fill & check all fluids and make sure NOTHING is loose or leaking...
On a brighter note, it was most likely a very minor 'seepage', rather than an outright 'leak'...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Stoneman, when you say "dealership", do you mean the shop where I bought my bike? Because if this is the case, the bike came already assembled in a crate...I'm not sure what you're saying...
The fluid was lower than low...meaning, there is "full" and "low" level, well the little container was almost empty, being a lot lower than "low" level....and there was white dried fluid all over the motor. Anyway....it's all set now...I need to have a maintenance done on my bike. Hopefully sooner than later.

You should pick up a service manual for your bike. All the routine maintenance should be detailed in the first chapter, including when and how to check things like coolant levels. They're quite inexpensive, and the $25 or so you spent will be saved the first time you don't need to take your bike to a dealer for some small, easy service.
That's one of the first thing I got after I had my bike honclfibr!!I have the 250 service manual...I'll have to try again to look at it, because the first time I opened it, it just looked like chinese to me when trying to understand all these mechanics drawings...*sigh*...lol

V-Stoneman is right...the dealership is where you bought the bike, and bikes dont come fully assembled, gassed, and in the crate. Wheels, fluids, and other assorted parts need to be assembled, adjusted, etc. Gas and other fluids are added at the dealership. Its very possible the dealer overlooked the tube, or if it was in place at the factory, it was put on wrong. You could do some snooping and find out just what is assembled by the dealer on your bike, and what is already in place from the factory.
Also...read yer owners manual!! It contains important info you need to keep the bike healthy and safe, and by doing that, keep YOURSELF healthy and safe! LOL. It will most likely have a checklist of what you should do before each ride, as well as each week, each month, etc., or some version of that. You should learn all you can about your particular bike, and treat it with respect. A neglected bike will bite you in the ass, eventually! Good luck!!
They ripped the crate in front of me and I saw my baby in her box...lol but yeah I'm sure you're right and it doesn't come with fluids in it, of course not. Either way, that tube was not tight up properly apparently, and I could have over-heated the motor I guess and it would have been really bad. I'm so lucky it didn't happend.![]()
