Looking on BCC's website at some new boots and new pants. I think I found a good boot for me..
the A* GPS 3 Street boot
anyone have any experience with these boots? should i shell out almost 100 bucks more for the SMX Plus? i'm not sure i'd need a full out race boot since i just started riding this year.
as for the pants, i'm looking at these fieldsheer poly Ti/mesh pants for the summer and was wondering if the 8" zipper is universal with all other jackets? i got a first gear mesh jacket with an 8" zipper in the back that i was hoping i could zip some pants into, although i haven't found any first gear pants that i like..

most zippers are not interchangeable

otherwise... gear looks good
if you want to zip them (good idea by the way), then you might want to go with the same brand and verify
well, i have the SMX Plus boots... i wear em on the street alot & although they're VERY different from hiking boots or sneakers, you get used to em pretty fast... only thing i dont like is they're squeaky when you're walkin around in em...
but i can tell you that the extra protection probably saved my ankle from being broken after just an "easy" 70mph get-off in the grass when the tail section of my bike landed smack dab on my leg, right the middle of my shin. I'm no expert, but i'm fairly certain that the extra ankle protection dispersed the force of the impact enough to save my leg, saving me a trip to the hospital and a leg in a cast.
are the boots you posted good boots? absolutely... i'm just saying i'm glad i spent that extra money & picked up the SMX's... as it turns out, spending the extra money on em saved me a SHITLOAD in hospital bills (no medical)

I own both of those items! The pants are OK I used them on the track my first track day. Did a low speed lowside (30-40mph im guessing) and they ripped through. Did not even TOUCH the layer I had underneath, but there was a hole in the pants. You just have to realize anything with the word MESH in them is a 1 crash jacket or pant. The boots are great... comfortable to walk in and I got them because I needed a track AND street boot and that works perfectly for me. I ride to places and walk around, and they are comfy, but they are warm as well.... but you can't expect them not to be! They held up just fine in the crash as well.
excellent.. thanks for the feedback, guys!
i also have the plus boots... i like them a lot....the squeaking seems to go away with time...
as for the zippers..I imagine you could take them to a tailer and have them stitch in a new zipper if needed... but is you are buy a set just match it...
I picked up a pair of the normal SMX boots (I thought they only had the SMX 3 and SMX Plus, but nef said they were just SMX), and I love them. Super comfortable, sometimes I wear them on my commute to work then just leave them on all day. But don't plan on sneaking up on anyone, they do squeak. I paid $100, and if you're patient enough and don't want to buy new, they go for a little more than that on ebay.
i'm a little hesitant on buying boots through ebay, because if they don't fit i could be faahked.
i'm about a size 11.5 and i guess 46 would be the right size for me, but i'd want to know i have the option to return it incase they don't fit right.
Haha, don't I fuckin know it. I've had my license for, let's see, about 6 weeks now, and I'm on my third pair of boots. I'm a terrible guesser.Originally posted by bump909

I'm also an 11.5 in sneakers/shoes, but I jumped on a pair of 44's sidewinder was selling. Not even close. So I was excited when I won an auction for the same pair of Sidi in 45. Wore them for a couple hundred miles, decided I couldn't walk in them, sold em to buddhaman. I'm now loving my size 46 SMX's.
If you wanna wait, you can try them on Saturday...and if buddhaman goes, you can even try on my old 45's.
I have those boots with the waterproofing.
Like you I am 'new' so I can't give you an expert comparison, only can tell you that they've held up well in the past several thousand miles I've ridden with them, they are reasonably comfortable and I'd buy them again.

Cool, I decided to hold off on the gear for now. I controlled my impulse urges.. for once.
Joey, I'll take you up on that offer on Saturday for sure.

Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
A* boots fit a bit funkily, as they're a bit more "pointy" than most I've tried. Definitely try before you buy, as even the fit between various A* models varies.
Typically pants fitted with a zipper include the mating section that can be sewn into the back of a jacket.
