I don't know if this is a problem with my bike or not. The issue is upshifting from 1st to 2nd gear. When I shift down from N to 1st you hear the normal clunk that you usually hear but when I shift up from 1st to 2nd you feel it go past neutral and then it gets clunky shifting into 2nd gear, almost like it doesn't want to go. The rest of the gears are fine. I don't know if it is a bike issue or is it a normal feeling, or is it a me issue. It seems to get worse the more time I am on the bike consecitively (spelled wicked wrong). Could it be that I am shifting at to high of a speed and that is why it feels clunky? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
It'll usually shift BETTER at higher speeds (revs, really). Tell us more about the bike: year, miles, ever raced, blah-blah-blah...

Personally, I like Rotella T Synthetic.
You put in what you want as long as it is not energy conserving oil which does not agree with wet clutches.
yeah, if the oil has a bit of mileage on it, change that first.... that's the easiest & cheapest possible solution.

You're fine using the clutch, that's what it's for. I prefer not to for upshifts, usually...
Change the erl and use a semi-synth. Some clutches don't like full-synth, too slippery...

Also pay careful attention to how you're moving your foot to shift. Sometimes I shift a bit too lightly on my SV and it does what you describe. The next shift I use a tiny bit more force and it's perfect.
if your linkage is clean it shoud shift smooth with the exception of some clunkyness during breakin
you'd be surprised how much grit can get in the boots over the linkage joints, clean them out and regrease, if you have enuf miles, the linkage may actualy be worn out...enuf to make it bind, especially if you havent been cleaning it regularly
I've replaced the shift linkage on my SV 3 or 4 times

Well I went to my local bike shop and got some oil and a new filter. changed everything and took it for a small drive. The engine seems to run a lot better and smoother but the shifting still seems a little off. I'm going to take it to the shop and have the guys there ride and see if they can see anything. I'll let ya guys know and thanks a messload for the help.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's fine. As I said, Zooks don't generally have smooth tranny's. The extra effort is due mostly to the longer throw you have from 1st to 2nd due to neutral being tossed into the mix...
Flip you shift linkage around so that you have 'GP' shifting. It'll click into 2nd like a well lubed....well, just try it...
