Getting rid of a “project” bike GIXXAH!

I’d intended to convert my 2016 GSX-R750 to a track only bike. Had Pete Kates upgrade the suspension and added some Woodcraft bits.

So, of course, I crashed it before removing the street body work. Started removing the bodywork. Ordered an Armour Bodies kit and Hindle exhaust. The universe responded with COVID, divorce, and cancer. And I “aged out” of track days.

My inclination is to just put the whole thing in an eBay auction and let it go. The damaged street bodywork parts seem hard to find, although the bike could almost certainly be made street legal.

If I did that, I could list it as the street bike only and sell the [new] body and exhaust separately. I’m resigned to the fact that it will sell for disturbingly little.

Dont really want to list it on CL or FB Marketplace as I don’t suffer fools gladly. But this would be a great bike for someone really into track days. How do ai reach them?

Any other suggestions? Taking pictures this weekend. It’s at our place near Sunapee but I can bring it to Boston.

assuming its not all twisted up and you have a clean title i think you would do ok selling it in whatever form. Maybe an ebay body kit and send it that way?
Sadly FB is the place to sell these days which is an exercise in frustration. You might get lucky posting here but then you gotta deal a different type of frustration lol.

There are specific groups on Facebook that might help. Search for “Track Motorcycle for sale” and filter your results to “Groups,” and you’ll find it, it’s a private group so you’ll need to request access. You can just make a post to that group rather than a for sale add and it will get just to your target audience. I think it would go a long way to get the Armour Bodies and exhaust installed, particularly since your perspective buyer may be looking to ship the bike.

Also, I may be interested myself. If you want to send me a PM (or text if you still have my number) we might be able to work something out. I’m heading to Errol, NH next weekend do I could potentially stop through Sunapee.

Just FYI, I’m pretty sure that group is a strict “no street bikes for sale” rule
Even through you may have only ridden it on the track, Street plastics = street bike there

Gonna contact them and Ken Condon. It will be a great track day bike for someone.

Plus one for Facebook groups. That's where I scored my current track bike - from the NEMRR group, IIRC.

Why wouldn't you just post it up on FB in the Cyclesmith group?

The body and exhaust are still in the box. So planning to sell the bike itself, and give the buyer first refusal on those items.

Personally I would tell the buyer that the boxed items are part of the sale and must go with the bike. You can negotiate the price as needed. It can take a long time to get rid of parts for older bikes and it sounds like the goal is to wash your hands of the entire Gixxah business, better to get rid of it all at once

Re: Getting rid of a “project” bike GIXXAH!

Took some pictures of it as it sits. Next week I’ll get it listed. Still haven’t figured out an asking price. 2016 GSX-R750 with 2,861 miles, body damage but some big upgrades, installed by Pete Kates. Also a number of Woodcraft upgrades. Most of the body parts are around, have to gather them up. Starts instantly.

Right now planning to establish an asking price, and give the buyer first refusal on the bodywork and exhaust at attractive prices.

Started today to strip off the street bodywork, preparatory to mounting the Armour body kit.

Should be a nice track bike when done.

Re: Getting rid of a “project” bike GIXXAH!

A street bike is usually a quicker sell than a track bike, as the squid market is a lot larger than the track rider market.
Although, that means you’d have to deal with the squid crowd on FB Marketplace.

But in order to reach all the track riders, you’d also have to list it on FB Marketplace.
But then you’ll have to deal with the squids messaging you “why doesn’t it have lights?”

Not selling as a street bike.

Once I get it sold as a track bike I’ll sell off the street bodywork, which goes for surprising prices on eBay.

This is true, but there are enough racer/track day guys on here and if Garandman is looking to move it, plenty of people looking for a deal on here.

Did so, for an asking price of $6,000 or best offer which was recommended to me by several people.

Got zero inquiries, which has been my typical experience. Sometimes I list stuff for entertainment value, like an M1 Garand.
