Not bad vehicle control !
What do you think those are?
800cc Interceptors?
I'd like to see a US cop on a Harley try that !
Don't even think the Cambridge cops on their
Bimmer R1200s could do that.
That's some impressive bike control! I'd imagine you'd have to be very good at getting around tight spaces (quickly) in the massively crowded Japanese cities.
akira: I too would love to see one of those retarded Harley's attempt that course. About as nimble as a a cinder block...
Kinda reminds me of the Buell "Battletrax" thing they did a few years back.
That was fun. Autocross for a motorcycle.
speaking of nimble cinder blocks...
I once saw, with my own eyes, I kid you not,
a motorcycle LEO, start to set out in pursuit
of some bad guy (maybe me, I'll never know)
and proceed to drop the bike over onto his leg.
He actually turned on his blues and started to
throw a leg over and had the thing start to lay over.
The Harley beast was so heavy I'm not sure if he got it back upright
on his own power.
It was a sight of a lifetime, unbelieveable.
I wish there were places here in the states where one can be trained to
practice those skills. The MSF is a kindergarten compared to those
manuvers.
The MSF was never intended to be at that level. Their main concern has always been to address the lack of skills over-represented in accidents. Even the ERC is along those same lines. Although, you have to admit, MSF training is one of the best places to start. Kindergarten indeed. To paraphrase a saying, "All of the most important things in motorcycling, I learned in Kindergarten!" Ha Ha
I love that video... on top of the good riding it's just chock full plain wacky japanese culture with the outfits and ceremonies and stuff.
But there is no need to take anything away from US moto officers. They do quite well with the behemoth Harleys they ride, I've seen them make some crazy tight u-turns and such.
Smaller bikes like the VFR are probably great in tight congested areas, which is where most police motorcycle duty seems to take place.. but here in the US with the huge open spaces having the bigger H-D models or BMW models is probably not much of a detriment.
if you liked that then you will prolly like this.YouTube - VFR 400 gymkhana

"fuckit!"
I noticed that too.. but I've got to think it's on purpose or they are trained like that for some reason since they're ALL like that.
Perhaps it doesn't matter as much for some reason at the speed they are moving and the way those particular bikes are setup. Or it's just showing a great deal of confidence.
The Gymkhana guy doesn't look that smooth either but he seems to know where he can be abrupt to save space/time.
