Do any of you guys record your commutes? I see some wild stuff at least once or twice a week it seems, and I'm thinking about throwing on the helmet cam each morning, just in the off-chance I catch something epic. Most days I'd probably just delete the file when I got home, but if I saw something worth keeping, I'd save that part.
Anybody do this? Would anybody even watch something like this? My trip is mostly just Comm & Mass Ave, but whenever I see viral motorcycle vids these days it seems like they're occurring on otherwise boring commutes as well..
I tried it out too. But I have a hard time editing down GoPro format with my 5-year old laptop. So I can only upload raw videos.

All the good stuff happens when you don't have a camera. Solution? Always have a camera.
I love watching those caught on tape type videos on youtube.
49 states do it one way, and Massachusetts does it their own way.
can't....then there would be evidence of the crazy stuff I'm doing!
no seriously...I'm going to try it
Half the reason I bought my camera. Okay, maybe 1/4.
My laptop isn't 5 years old, but I have similar problems as Rossco; utter lack of patience to learn to edit.
Net effect is that I've had a camera for 5 months and haven't even mounted it on my helmet yet. On the todo list.
I have a hard-mount on the bike. But putting it on/taking it off is too much of a pita when commuting. And I'm not about to leave it on the bike unattended.
I had actually been thinking of doing this as of late also. almost grabbed the Contour on my way out the door this morning.
Not my commute, because it's 4 miles, but yes, I record every ride now. My friend is convinced I will get tons of really boring footage and then footage of my next crash.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
Here's my commute:
I don't carry the camera with me daily though. But I would be able to catch some dumbass drivers as well!

Probably true unfortunately...I was trying to explain to my non-rider buddy what the point of recording even was. That's pretty much it, and if you've got the time to do some quality editing, get some cool angles, and set a good soundtrack you can make a cool vid, but its really hard to explain to people why that would be interesting haha.
Really I just want to start vlogging poor driving.
I am also planning to use the headstrap or the chesty for analyzing my sparring sessions.

I have a replay and I record probably 75% of my commutes which are about 35 minutes.
Every once in a while you catch something interesting.
Every once in a while after you catch something interesting, you bother to download and save the clip.
I've been thinking of doing this to make a narrated series of "how to ride safely among fucking idiots" videos.
Reasonable / lame?

Reasonable is way, way behind you. I think you are closing in on "epic cool", as ideas go.
Bet you could get one helluva following on yootoobe.

If I'd had it last night, I could've filmed the Cabbie who joined me in my lane with his head out the window yelling "You tink I care you die?! You tink I care you die?! I no care you die! You do stupid ting you die!"
Apparently I popped his balloon somewhere along the way home.
I have been considering doing this after I had a run in with a cabbie little over a month ago. Long story bearable, the cop couldn't cite him for pulling an illegal uturn since I missed him (no physical damage to his cab). I end up with a broken bike and finger, and this asshole gets off since I didn't hit him.

Who the hell wants to watch someone ride to work?
Everybody who rides knows what driving to work looks like.

i almost got killed on my way to bike night last night. didnt have my Contour with me tho. suv pulled over on the left side of the high speed lane decided he was gonna merge right into me from a dead stop with his left directional still on. fortunately i was to the right of center in the lane and was able to get outta the way, blast the horn and spin around and drop the bird at him. best part is that i was even wearing my stupid bright hi vis rain jacket at the time.
It was surreal really..."Who is this guy? Is this happening? Why is he so mad?" I just gave his space & let him work it out haha. Would love to be able to play it back for you all. Maybe I can track him down & see if he wants another dance...
