According to the GoPro website the GoPro HD is going to be available this fall. Not sure about how much it will cost but 1080p sounds pretty darn good:

$299 and Go-Pro has not released any of them to distributors yet. If you're seeing it listed in online stores... It's fluff... They don't have them yet and are trying to secure pre-orders under the guise that they already have them in stock.

Only prob I see with this is in an event like a track day with minimal downtime, you cant simple pop a new set of batteries in when the power dies.

The standard Go Pro used to only support up to 2gb per file, aka just shy of 2 hours video. The firmware update ups that to 4gb.
