GP Shift - Pros/Cons?

Ever ridden the track, especially in a race situation? A & B are already covered. For C, I don't think the pro's use these little reminder tricks, I think they just do it by instinct, shifting the way they could, whatever you call it. Which is how I did it, even my first time, so I guess instinct is out. It probably is instinct/muscle memory for any pro using GP though.

I think trying to remember all these ways to remember which way to shift is gonna fuck you up more than anything else. I'd get all those cute little sayings and analogies right the fuck outta your head before you give this a shot. I'm sure there's plenty of us around here that'd let you try it out first too...

That's why I said they were a few tips she CAN use (if she wants to) to help. Those tips helped me so it's not like they don't work at all. They're things to use to help you remember which way to shift if you need help remembering. Once you learn it you don't really need to use em.

EXACTLY! Just clear your fuckin' head and to the opposite of what you normally do...

And like I said... once you start getting used to GP, then GP becomes what you normally do.... and if you keep doing the opposite of what you normally do you miss shifts.

yes, and when I'm off the bike on the right-hand side, my foot doesn't make it under the lever to upshift with the shifter set up standard. So, when I'm that far off the bike n the right, a little down tap on the shift lever gets me out of 2nd to 3rd going up the hill.

I rode my first GP shift simply by being told "it's GP shift" and being handed the bike. Turned out I liked it. Why add extra shit to think about?

I wasn't even told, it was quite by accident, I brought my SV into dealer for service and when I picked it up, I took off in 2nd and promptly shifted to first

Some other ways to know if you've exceeded the lean angle are:

• People coming up to you and asking if you're all right.
• You can see your bike....but it's 'over there'
• You remember seeing blue sky, tarmac, blue sky, gravel, blue sky....
• You can't remember seeing blue sky, tarmac, blue sky, gravel, blue sky....
