Seriously ... just what the community needs..

Pretty misleading title. I imagined a bunch of bikers that got pulled over and beat the crap out of a cop, not a biker who did a 25mph "high five".

You missed this one:
but then drove directly at Trooper Mark Weiner, striking his hand, before the motorcyclist drove off towards Connecticut. Weiner was not seriously injured and continued to work the incident.

Or hit him with the bike?![]()
Meh...something tells me if the cops are waving you down they aren't really looking for a drive by "high five."
This will just lead to more bikes getting pulled over this summer
I think there is a good possiblity someone may be stretching this a little. It's hard to tell since we didn't witness it first hand, but the fact that they used words like "striking the officers vehicle" when in the end no one went to the hospital, and the fact that the guy on the bike was still able to ride it should kind of tip you off. How about "made contact"?
Don't get me wrong, the guys on the bikes were obviously complete asshats, but the point is, it seems to portray a very dramatic situation when no one even got hurt. For all we know it was a game of cat and mouse with some contact being made while the bikers tried to wiggle their way out of it. Did the cop jump in front of the rider? Did the rider who struck the cruiser merely bump it while trying to turn around? Who knows, but it seems to make more sense that the riders were just trying to get away and the contact was more incidental than anything.
I love when cops estimate speeds. 130mph? How does that look different than 100?
As BSR6 said, this story sounds embellished.

i'd probably be off a bit in your example, but someone with a ton of highway experience (like MSP) would have no trouble at all. regardless, none of that is really relevant in this situation.
it was still light out when this started around 8pm - sun doesn't set till 8:30 this time of year, and headlights aren't even required till 30 minutes after that because there's still plenty of ambient light. this whole event didn't last anywhere close to an hour, so i highly doubt there was any trouble seeing the bikes.
as for the wrong way travel part, the OP's linked article phrasing is a little misleading. the report estimated the speed of the bikes traveling south (with traffic) on I-91 toward CT at around 130mph. i didn't see any estimate made for the two bikes traveling north (against traffic) on I-91 south.
even if they had been going opposite traffic on I-91 at 130, it really wouldn't have made visual estimates any more difficult. the guys running radar along the undivided stretch of route 1 (danvers to seabrook) at highway speeds seem to have no trouble estimating speed on a daily basis.

So his reason for pulling them over was that they were riding 4 across?LOL

I would agree with you to a point, how often do you estimate peoples speed that exceed 100 mph? I don't think anyone could estimate 130 versus 110 at night, on a m/c. Seems like they are looking for public support by making this sounds like the Wild West to the general public.

I find it surprising everyone is sticking up for the bikes here...in my opinion and the reason I posted the thread is that it gives sport bike riders that much worse of a rep locally.
I don't care if the story is embellished for greater readability, the fact remains that they broke the law in the exact way most of the general public views as a nuisance.
Nobody gives a shit why YOU posted the thread. If you want to post if for your own reasons, post it in your diary.
You put it on a public forum, which means we all get to express our opinions. What the bikers did was wrong, but the newspapers and police possibly exaggerating the story and/or manipulating the facts to drum up public sympathy isn't right either.

what does Holyoke have to do with anything?
most people can estimate speed when they are doing it but not the speed of another vehicle when they are standing still.
even an officer just estimating speed does not hold up in court. It has to be backed up with another method.
