Guess I am a squid as well.
Got out of work and strapped the jacket to the back seat and rode home with shorts and a wife beater on.
Most of the time I do wear my gear but sometimes it just feels fucking great to feel the wind. Must be the old harley guy part of me. Now that I think of it my face shield is usually in the up position as well to let the wind hit me in the face.

Will, I was trying to point out, I don't ride any differently with or without full gear.
I don't wear gear as much for crash protection as I do for comfort, motorcycle gear is cut for comfort in a riding position, when it gets so that it's uncomfortable to wear gear cause of the heat, i don't wear it and I feel that I am safer without it than with, cause the discomfort of wearing it will not distract me from riding
Will, you got plenty of kick ass dirt roads near you, you should start riding them![]()

You're totally right, man. I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with anyone by calling them squids, because that was not my intention at all. I know the gear vs. no gear debate is kind of a hot topic, but my thread was more of a crybaby rant than anything serious.Originally posted by Half Squid

I think he was just razzin ya. All in good fun on a pulic forum. If you take anyone too serious in a public forum your crazy, just feed them back some good sarcastic wise ass comment and post with a smile! When we all get out to ride sometime nobody will give two shits what someone said in the forum unless they are a complete ass.. I have not seem too many of those around here, only a handfull, most are gone!
Lots of great people here with super sarcasim!!!
So does that mean you don't want any cookies?? I baked a whole bunch.Originally posted by bump909

That being said... I witnessed some squidilicious behavior one evening last week in the state of New Hampshire. At least, it seems squidly and rather amusing to me. Some bloke has an F4i with Sirius Satellite radio, a subwoofer and speakers. A little much for a sportbike if you ask me.![]()

Bump, you're not on the wrong foot. You're absolutely right about NH. The 6 inch chicken strips, no helmet, and so on. It was extremely hot this weekend, and with temps pushing 95 and humid, most of us relaxed on the gear a little. The whole community here are various levels of riders but the one thing I think most of us have in common is that we are attentive. We will be extra cautious riding without a jacket and such, but not alter our riding to do 40 mph in the right lane on the highway simply because we aren't wearing boots.
I for one say that NH needs a helmet law, and it should also require and MSF course, not just a read through the book and a ride around a couple orange cones. I don't even wave to riders for the most part. I always wave to guys on sport tourers, but sportbikes and harleys, not often at all.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Maybe Maybe they could pass a helmet law, but I highly highly doubt it. But trying to make everyone in the live free or die state take the MSF course, cmon that is never going to happen and you know it.

I'm just saying what I think they should do. Not what they will do.

I think we should what they do in Europe and make people start on scooters and work their way up to the bigger bikes
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

people that don't wear gear don't bother me because that's all on them. people who ride dangerously bother me because they can hurt someone else.
I always wear boots, jeans (don't own riding pants), helmet, gloves, and jacket unless it's unusually hot and humid. I would say I have some squidly tendancies, but I'm sure they'll dissapate as I gain experience.
I took my bike the other day to my friends house to put it in his garage so I can fix it, So I leave work I got me t-shirt, shorts and work boots and helmet on, I have my wife follow me.. We get there and she says " I thought you guys always say Only squids wear shorts when riding" to which I reply "Well Duuuh, they do.." In all seriousness, I dress how I feel I should not how someone else feels I should..
I am Doc and I am a reformed squid.
I USED to ride in a tshirt until I wrecked in my jacket. If I had only had my shirt on it would have been ALOT worse.
And for those saying a 35 mph crash wouldn't need gear..."
I'll get in my gear and you get in you shorts an T. We will then run as fast as we can in a parking lot and dive on the pavement. I wonder who would come out with less injuries? Fools.![]()

Don't remember anyone saying there is no need for gear under 35mph, think they just say they prefer not to wear it on hot days.. I'm just one of those people who tries not to look down my nose at others, as strange a concept as that sounds..![]()
I'm a Squid too. However I never leave the house without my Helmet, gloves, and jacket. I always wear pants, and above the ankle boots...sometimes my hiking or work boots instead of riding boots.
I Ride in gear because I would rather sweat than Bleed...

Hey fellas,
Actually the term "squid" was first used to describe sportbikers who were quick on the straights and slow on the turns. Just like a real squid swims (fast only in straight lines).
These squids lack the skills, confidence or even desire to get around a corners fast. They're more concerned with their image, stunts and "how fast have you gone" bullshlt. They practice stunts because it impresses young boys. These same guys have the tendency to not gear-up for their stunts or high speed sprints (you should dress for the crash, not for the ride). And when they eat shlt, they're insurance covers the medical and the bike. Thus, jacking up our insurance rates.
You might be a squid if:
1) You rev your engine at every red light
2) You have fur on your fairings
3) You wear your helmet on top of your head like a hat
4) Your first bike was a liter-bike
5) You've extended your swingarm but aren't a drag-racer
6) You liked the movie Biker Boyz
7) You've spent more money on your bikes looks than performance
8) You brag about how fast you've gone (or think you've gone)
9) You don't know what the apex of the corner is
10) You find any of the above acceptable
Remember, Just about all track riders can stunt, but almost no stunters can ride track.
My name is Chris, and I'm NOT a squid.
