Hey I didn't say it's the best bike I have ever owned. My true love is still my 1000!
Check into the forum, lots of knowledge there. I have only been into Hawks since 2004 but have owned about 12 of them in that time.
They are very modable. Just about ANY Honda front end will bolt up, same bearings and eveything. (F2, F3, F4, 600rr, 929... You get the picture)
There are still go fast bits to be found and the cult following they have lends itself to more parts and pieces being created every year. With that cult following a Hawk is easy to mod with all the knowledge from the cult (basically it has all been done before)
The twinspar aluminum frame and SSSA were ahead of there time. Yes the motor is a dog in stock trim but getting over 70hp in a 340lb bike is not all that difficult. There are Hawks known to be lighter and pushing more HP but they tend to become grenades.
The maintenance on them is not all that hard, but you do need to be meticulous to squeeze every once out of them. Even if you are not meticulous you can get away with flogging them and they don't blow up.
I am on the fence about selling the endurance racer in the spring. Once I figure out why it overheated and fix any issues I just might want to run it and redeem ourselves next year.
If you are looking for cheap PROJECT HAWK I have one in my garage. Pure trackbike project. Needs a motor tear down and rebuild (sat out in the rain without carbs on it) and other parts but a good starter and for $500 you could sell the parts and make money.
