Whats the MA law regarding earbuds while driving a motorcycle?
-Mark
80 GS850 well sorta....
Last time I checked it was illegal. Never heard anything though from officers when I have been pulled over. Depends on the officer I guess.

I'm not sure if it changes for motorcycles and what not but you are supposed to use only one earphone while on a call. Techincally if you have both on you can get pulled over for it and get a ticket.
Last I heard you could be ticketed if you had BOTH ear buds in while operating a vehicle. However you were good to go if you only used 1 of the 2 earbuds.
Edit: Whut Savas said.
Chickenshit, if you ask me.
I see people operating all kinds of vehicles with everything from ear buds to enormous over-ear headphones all the time. Recently I saw a chick driving a clapped out Corolla wearing bright orange safety ear muffs. I couldn't figure out why until the light turned green and she gunned it. Time to get someone to weld that exhaust for you there misseh!

Illegal, but I doubt you'd get in trouble unless you were already being a jackass.
On another note, I'm about to rig these up in my helmet. Not technically earbuds, so maybe that'll get me a pass if I ever need one...
They work great in my snowboard helmet, hoping they'll be solid on the bike too.

MA General Law, Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90, Section 13 -
"No person shall operate a motor vehicle while wearing headphones, unless said headphones are used for communication in connection with controlling the course or movement of said vehicle."
It looks like you might be legal if using them if with a GPS, or a GPS app on your phone. I couldn't find anything else on the topic in a search of the MA General Laws.

Get a Sena SMH-5/10. Much more useful than headphone.
My g/f and I both have them. They are outstanding. Probably 25 of us (born members who ride together) have them as well. They connect quickly and easily to any smartphone and the controls are very intuitive. Can't say enough good things about them. Music quality is loud enough that I can wear earplugs and still listen to music and make or answer the occasional phone call.

Stick to one ear and you will be fine.
FWIW the law says:
Personally I take GPS instructions as "communication in connection with controlling the course or movement of said vehicle."No person shall operate a motor vehicle while wearing headphones, unless said headphones are used for communication in connection with controlling the course or movement of said vehicle.

If you play ozzy loud enough, he's giving trail braking advice. Honest officer.![]()
