How can I heat the garage?

    I hope your rich....

Heating the house is liable to cost you around 3000 a year even with oil

Garage , greenhouse ??? are you an ARAB

If its just to work in the garage I say wood stove....
Usually illegal in a garage by the way

Then drill a 1/4 inch hole on the top and get a tank with a valve
and drip in oil into an allready burning wood fire....

Note cheapest source is Coal but is pain in the ass but about 1/2 the price of oil

Also is the worst for pollution not to mention a pain in the ass and pollutes all inside your house....

I was just updating the calcuation from years ago...

Electric is now only twice as costly as oil heat.... where as a few years ago it was 5 to 6 times as costly

How can I heat the garage?

As long as it's insulated well, it doesn't hurt that much...
I keep mine at 57degrees all winter. warmer when I'm in it for a weekend:
Modine Nat.Gas heater... piped out the wall... TONS of pink stuff in the attic, High R-value garage door, etc... (shop looks a lot different now, BTW... I have to post more pics)

How can I heat the garage?

I can't offer anything in the way of a good heat source. I'm lazy. I just bought one of those propane floor heaters that look kinda like a garbage can.
It works well enough. I'll tell you what did help though. A fan! My barn is an old victorian horse barn with a hayloft on the second floor, so the ceiling isn't terribly high, maybe 8'. I mounted one of those big floor fans you can get Home Depot or BJ's to the ceiling. I don't mean the really huge monsters, just those ones that sell for about 40$ with 3 speeds. The swivel stand mounted to the ceiling easy enough, and I ran the cord to the nearest light, to plug it in. I have an outdoor thermometer inside near the ceiling. When the fan is off, the temp. near the ceiling will be near 90 deg, just to make it comfy where I am. With the fan on{blowing down, Duh}, it drops to 60 and I can throttle the heater back much more. Since the stand swivels, I can aim the air flow where I want.
One fringe benefit is when I use my gas grill, by the open garage door when it is raining, I aim the fan out the door and I don't fill the barn with smoke.
    Just a thought.
