went to go see soemone about a 01 r6
neighborhood isnt the gretest part of town but not the best either.
Owners is a minority type typical thug wannabe
he has the title, never registered it but rode it around with another plate
he says its a salvage title.(scrathces on frame swingarm etc.)
i have the vin#, anythign i shoudl worry about? (he's been trying to sellit for 3 months as i've seen his ad before)
He then says his brother is selling his bike too a 02 R6 chrome wheels,( actually brought it up as the bike was onthe otherside of the driveway) chrome swing arm etc.
The line on this bike is that his brother bought the bike with a title but never registered it( i could believe it, lots of unregistered uninsured bikes inRI)
however his brother's car was stolen and that had the bike's title.
I wrote down the vin to this also. his brother doesnt remember who sold it to him and has been ridingit for the past 2 years unregistered
my ?'s how can isee if these bikes are stolen? police ?
if they arent stolen and vin#'s run clear, how can i get the title to me? (might be Rhode island specific but curious what others have to say on this.)
yes this coudl be a problem bike, but it could also be a great find and for a little bit of work be a real nice deal;
If they';re stolen i dont want them. I'd like to make these into a street legal bike actually
hmmmm......
I think you can get a vin check at any RI town police station for $10, that would tell you if was stolen or not anyways.
You need a registration or title from the owner to get a new title. If he never registered it, and lost the title, it sounds like you're fucked. Plus if he tries to file for a new title (you can't), you can bet your ass the first thing RI wants is all the back taxes on it, sales tax, property tax and the penalty charge for not paying the sales tax after 20 days of ownership![]()
If you plan on registering it, I'd stay away for sure. But if you want it for a trackday only or race bike, and it's not stolen, go for it
edit..
even if he has the title (just saw you said the 01 has a title) but never registered it, someone is going to have to pay the taxes and penalty on it before you can register it.
Yamaha
the kid has a title on the 01 r6
however it's a salvage.... I want to find out what needs to be done to make it repairable can i do that? with just the vin and title?
he has no idea where the list went to.
hmmmm......
the 01 r6 might make a good track bike how ever..... i coud find a similar onf or about 500$ with a clean title. and some track goodies
hmmmm......
If it smells like shit, don't take a bite. Then again, if it's just gonna be a track bike, it may be worth taking a little nibble![]()

even if it's legit but not titelable(pain in the ass to title) i might jsut buy it and part it out/ sell again
hmmmm......
This sale should depend on the meaning of < minority type typical thug wannabe> Please tell what kind of minority?
funny you mention that R6 cus I talked to that guy last week about coming to check it out. he gave me the same story about not registering the bike and it having a salvage title.
personally I left it alone, cus I didnt get a good vib from him. and if I did get the bike I would have to fix it up to look perfect, tow it to the state inspection place and THAN get a rebuilt title. a lil too much work on my end considering wha he is selling it for. If it already had a rebuilt title than i would've considered it.

If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike

droopy pant, poor english no social skills you know dawg?
a different vibe than if i had shown up in upscale neighborhood witha guy who sppoke clearly and intelligently and sisnt speak of how he liked to ride uninspected and un registered
i got the vins' i'l check them out tomorrow.. worse case... i get 2 parts bike or a trackbike?
can "I" apply for a lost title??? thru DMV
sxlova07 , that's the r6..... I got the same vibe and it was solidified when I met him. but he seemed more dum than smooth
hmmmm......
i could be wrong, but the only person that can file a "lost title" is the last person who had it registered isn't?
Few years ago i bought an old vfr750 that had a title that was signed over twice and never registered, and left me with no room on the title to sign my own name. I tried tracking down the last known owner but that was a no go and RMV guy told me it'd be in my best interest to part the bike out (prolly cuz it was an older bike and not really worth the time to me).
