In late September I was involved in a crash traveling around 40-50mph.
My head did hit the ground however it wasnt hard at all. There are minor scuffs on the helmet .
This was a very good quality helmet ( spent over $400 on it) so Im wondering if it's still good or not?
Thanks.
Oh yea... It's fine.

It depends.
We need more info.
What brand of helmet is it?
What's your IQ?

I agree with Doc, it's a mantle piece.
It hit the ground, it's damaged, it's compromised.
In the end it's your squash though, and as you know helmets aren't cheap. Your insurance should cover it, or partially cover it.

If in doubt, throw it out!

Not to bust your balls or anything, but this thread is like asking "Hey Noel, what do you think of this rash?" without posting pics.
The general rule of thumb that I use is if the paint isn't scratched/flaked off, it's probably fine, but then again, I'm not a helmet expert. Bring it to someone who knows what they're talking about and have them actually look at the thing.

Get another helmet. Chances are the helmet is compromised and to use it is foolish. ?TBI

Should work fine for a planter...
Yellow light, green light, heart stands still...
Retire that thing! Your brain will thank you. New helmet is cheaper than six months in rehab should something go wrong!

i love football helmets... they go all season long and still work! you should have seen the scuffs on the front of mine... i was a line backer... heh heh heh.
i look at my motorcycle helmet that has a couple scuffs from dropping it here and there... Seems fine to me.
Did you FEEL your head hit the ground??? i can hit my helmet with a belt sander and scuf the paint and its still good.

Move the inner liner back and look very carefully at the foam (this is the stuff that decelerates your head in an impact). The outer shell is mainly there to hold the foam shell together.
The white foam is painted black for a reason - any deformity of the foam core will show white spider web cracks - look carefully at the scuffed site and opposite that...as well as everywhere.
Any, ANY white showing, bin it!
Sheees, and people still hang helmets on rear view mirrors

while dropping it certainly isn't a good thing its not as bad as having your head hit the ground while wearing it. the EPS liner inside will crush some when your head hits thereby making that spot less effective should you hit in the same spot again.
never heard of the color thing. I know I smacked my head on the ground wearing a Suomy. Examining the foam I don't recall seeing any white but I can see where the foam compressed. I've also crashed in a Scorpion and got a concussion. don't recall seeing any white there either but I also couldn't see any compression of the foam. $200 for the Scorpion and crash in the soft dirt/grass giving me a concussion told me to switch back to the $500 Suomy where I hit pavement and had no ill effects.

It really is not worth taking the risk! I mean, what a new helmet is gonna set you back $500. Buy a GOOD quality helmet. This is THE most important part of your body we are talking about here, don't cheap out. A good shot to the head can change your whole life. A guy i knew slipped on the snow and "bonked" his head on the fender of his truck, went home and told his dad that he had a bad headache then went to bed; never woke up! Still in a comma; that was 1979. Seriously, think about it! Its 500 bucks.JMO
