Advantages of a one piece leather

I have a 2 pc now but need to get pants that fit better . I could get good Astar pants that zip to my jacket for 500$ or should i spend 1200$ for a one piece ?

There aren't a whole lot of advantages to a 1pc over a solid full circumference 2pc. One less thing to hang up, no zipping, maybe a little bitter fit & less bulk around the waist... that's about it probably.

I had a 2pc for a few years back when I was doing track days & a lot of sport street riding. After a year of racing I "upgraded" to a 1pc. If I were just doing TD's and street, I'd stick with a 2pc.

I got a one piece for track days. In hindsight, doing one day a year (on average), I should have gotten a 2-piece, as I would wear it for longer street rides if it was convenient for bathroom runs. That said, I am far more comfortable in my one-piece on the track.

Freedom of movement and of course safety if i do crash . You think i can get those with just getting better fitting pants ?

This is very consistent with what I have heard.

Two things: Its important to make sure the zipper on the 2 piece is a heavy duty/industrial grade zipper - Todd at Heroic was saying that some of the Alpinestars zippers look wimpy.
Aren't one piece suits more likely to come with a speed hump on the back than 2 pieces?

I love my 2 piece and will stick to it.

I think speed humps are lame. I don't think they serve any purpose for track day riders like myself except add bulk to the suit.

The only reason I bought my 1-piece was because the price was very right. I have just as much confidence in my 2-piece with its heavy duty perimeter zipper.

ehh. The speed hump serves to limit hyper extension of the neck in case you go tumbling down. I'd say that's not lame.

Leatts are designed to work with the speed hump.

No need to zip up on the street, but a 2pc makes the most sense for the street rider with a few TDs per year thrown in. 1pc is overkill and just plain inconvenient all around for a street focused rider.

Keep looking. Don't get me wrong, that's a nice suit but in my mind, $1200 is a suit, helmet, gloves and boots.

I have a couple Joe Rockets that crashed well, a Kobe Misano that crashed well (up until the zipper exploded), a Teknic that survived a visit or two to the deck....

There are lots of options out there.

This is important! I low-sided at NHMS a couple of weekends ago, and I wear a 2-piece suit. The pants are.. tight (I bought them in 1999!) and, when I slid, the jacket and pants separated an inch or two and I ended up with some scratches on my stomach and some holes in my t-shirt. No blood and no scars, but in hindsight I should have known better.

for people doing 2:00 lap times, no they dont. they do help in crashes & some have room for a camel back if you're doing an endurance race.

I have been racing and doing TDs for 4 years now. In a 2pc 8 year old A* suit. I have crashed around 7 times and the suit held up great. I repaired it but never had to touch the zippers. A high quality 2pc is just as good as a 1pc.

As ridiculous as this sounds I actually have both. Both are relatively inexpensive (pronounced cheap) suits. My 2 piece is a fieldsheer. Turns out it was their attempt at a knock off aerostitch transit with a sportier pant. Full zip (not really "360" but something like 325) at the waste. I've worn it as a commuter suit every day for about 2 seasons (rain, shine, wind, some snow). It's held up reasonably well. I wouldn't be any more afraid of crashing in it than I would be the onesie.

I have a teknic onesie that I think Colin posted a link to as a sport bike and track gear clearance. It had been previously warn, but the only damage to it looked like someone fell while walking their bike to tech. Picked it up in extra fat guy size for something like $350. Is it perfect? No. It could certainly offer more protection, but based on the fact that I can't go over 60 mph it's probably OK.

I have 2 of those, bought one from SeaCoast last fall for much less than $1200, I'd suggest going to see Pat in the gear section to see what they have.
I also bought another Laguna on a cycle gear closeout sale, just because it was such a good deal, and I had a gift card to use there, and really wasn't into buying crap gear.
I like the 2 piece for street use and used it for trackdays until I got the 1 piece. I like the humps because they look cool and the pro's have them..good enough reason in my book!

If you buy the pants that zip to your current jacket, just make sure the pants are the same matching number size for the jacket, or you'll likely have to have the zipper altered to center things back up..and make the full circle. For that reason, I've never liked buying and piecing together a suit. I believe Dainese 2 piece suites have a different circumference zipper style than the separate pant and jacket gear as well, not sure if that's the case with A*

Is this true? I did not know this. I thought it was strictly an aerodynamics thing.. that and a styling thing.

I'm considering a Leatt. I knew they were designed to work around the hump, but I thought that was simply because the humps were so ubiquitous these days. If they built the braces without accommodations for the hump, it would only work with a handful of suits.

I got absurdly lucky. I have a Cortech jacket for the street. A while back I bought a pair of Teknic pants 2nd hand. The zipers mate perfectly and the gear works well together. Meant to be.

Yes it was at basic, but mine does zip together. I don't think they would have let me run if it didn't zip at all. Hell, I wouldn't go out if it didn't zip at all!
