    ? about riding in Pennsylvania

I am thinking of moving to the Lancaster area of PA and was wondering if anyone on here is from around there or has ridden much down there. It seems pretty close to Pocono raceway and Beaver Creek, so that is good. Is there any good street riding too? Thanks, Jon

Ive been down there in a car and the roads are nice. Remind me of western mass, or some of VT.

sure, in particular most roads in amish country have very wide shoulders to fit not only cars but also buggys and bicycles....coupled with the fact that many roads are built along farm fields. typically these go straight for a quarter mile then 90 degrees to the left, another quarter mile then 90 to the right.....generally the area is "nice rolling hills" with decent access to more remote areas just an hour away. be warned, york pa is where hd's are assembled. i think the workers get points and are given days off for running jap bikes off the road < kidding, my brother lives there.... he rode a suzuki i gave him for a few years there before he gave it up.

That doesn't sound too bad. I thought it would suck as I'm used too mtn. passes and such. Has anyone ever lived in that area? Or ridden at Pocono?

I lived near there..sort of in ambler, PA we would always head out towards lancaster for good riding..
you wont be dissapointed.. no long sweepers etc like up in vt etc.. That's NJ
    more tight turns etc.
tar snakes abound in some places get slippery in the heat.
watch out for horse crap in the road its also slippery.
local track is poconos East which i liek better than NHIS though the beaver is about 4 hours away and summit point is also 4 - 5 hours away and worth it.
Feel free to ask any other ?'s
The roads can be very potholey though.. i coul tell you some good roads though for sure out there.

I found an INCREDIBLE road from Lancaster to Baltimore city limits. It was killer twisties all the way to the city grid. I can't remember the number, but there are PLENTY of twisty roads out there. The nice part is there are relatively few blind corners, and the locals drive fast on the secondary roads. We kept wondering why every corner had darkies in it until we got behind some local traffic. They had tires squealing in every corner.

It's just very conservative with not much cultural going on. The cities are in urban decay. It's nice having the amish farm markets.

Baltimore is close by though, and it's actually got a lot going on. It's one of my favorite cities despite it's reputaion.

Why do you prefer pocono over loudon?

If you look down, you go down. That may be fun at an orgy, but it sucks on a bike

I was just in Lancaster this past weekend.

There are some great roads in the nearby vicinity and several of them were freshly paved.

There didn't seem to be a lot of new growth housing wise, but overall it looked like a normal part of the country to live.

Its definitely not big city living.

Beaver Run is a really fun track! Should be plenty of dirt riding opportunities down there too...

?? less bumpy certainly, but smaller, no real elevation changes, east course is veerry short. certainly entitled to you opinion but having ridden pocono i find it boring in comparison to loudon (ridden the FUSA track and east course... albeit in the late 90's, maybe it's been transformed?)

i was hooked on loudon over pocono the first session (actually liked it more than summit pt as well... but that's a HP track and my racebike doesn't have HP )

    just my $0.02

...completely agree that PA roads are niiiiiiice

pits are nothing special... just some gravel, grass and center road. NHIS has it beat by far.

some electric not much.. spectator POV its ok i guess... nothing special no elevation, You can get sort of close but only to certain sections.
