Clayton, can I take it for rip? Vmax's rock!
Nathan
That's her. It's living at my Dad's house in his garage since this big pig was a little much for my dinky trailer + my rough dirt roads. Have to register it before I can take her home. Hoping to get it reg'd tomorrow thanks to Mark (BMFR6) being the best insurance guy anyone could ask for
YES Nate, you may take for a rip. Same for you Chris.
Haven't ridden one since I was 16 years old. Was on my permit and riding around on my 1979 Honda CM400T. Thing had about 29hp. My uncle, same one who showed up with a go-kart one night for me when I was 8, pulled in one late afternoon on his '87 Vmax before my parents had come home from work. Being the youngest of my mothers brothers, she was always bothered by him trying to be the "cool" uncle to me, the only nephew/boy in the family. He had girls, so did everyone else.
Well, doesn't he realize my mom wasn't home yet and flips me the key to the mighty Max. I take it up the road, was shocked at how touchy the front brakes were (two finger stopping????? WAH????). Turned onto Rt.12 north, waited a couple miles until I was far away from any houses, then ripped through the gears. When it hit V-boost in second gear, my feet came off the pegs. I superman'd down the road trying like hell to hang on. Managed to roll off a bit, grabbed an upshift, and hung on for dear life.
I was <120lbs at the time. Came back unscathed to my mother reaming out my uncle in the driveway. Knew right then I wanted one of these bad boys one day.

Nice pickup, Clayton. Nostalgia can be a mofo when it comes to bikes. Maybe I'll see you cruisin' around the area this summer, I'll keep an eye out for that Max.
I thought you didn't get pretty bikes? That looks damn sharp...nice find.
A friend of mine has one - he's on the board and I'm sure he'll chime in.
Beautiful bike...congratulations![]()

Rode it home.
Kicked in the Vboost in the same spot on the same road that I did 14 years ago (same time of year too). Felt JUST as good.
Only kicked it in once. I'll let this thing breath next ride. This one was just to get it home.
First impressions:
Feels smaller than it is. Stock seat is very comfortable. Came with a Corbin Gunfighter + Lady, but this may be better. Needs adjustable levers. Also needs a longer shifter pedal for my big feet. The sound of that V4, even from the stock exhaust, is downright addicting. Lugs/cruises at 3k with no drama, just like the ZRX. Back brake is strong, front brakes need some Gafler green pads and a good bleed. Clutch pull is fairly heavy, but the adjustable levers would make that less of an issue. Also, throttle is very stiff, need to lube the cables anyways, but I think the carb return springs are heavy on this bike. Has some hard cruiser stock grips on there. Getting swapped out for Pro-Grip 714's ASAP for my long fingers to wrap around comfortably.
Putting gas in it is a non-issue during the day. Can see how nighttime refueling may be difficult.
Suspension is surprisingly supple and controlled over the nasty pavement/dirt road commute to my house.
Turns fine, very stable, but is not light or flickable. Feels like a massive hunk of metal. No sway, no flex. Solid feeling, but not light feeling. Fine for a cruiser.

Is the V boost just a second set of butterflies?
-Alex
I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Yup, servo actuated secondary. Kicks in at 6k.

Why no pin them open? Lose torque?

Lotta guys do. I'm going to leave it stock for a while. This thing has gobs of smooth torque down low with a nice musical hit up top. The kits to open the Vboost up completely are out there for cheap, but I'm going to do a bit of homework first before modding this thing. And any mods will be more ridablity/comfort type things if anything.
Not sure what the downside is, but the 80-120 mile normal range would probably one of this first things to suffer.
