HID help...

I used a projector housing donor headlight from a GSXR 600, but my bike is a franken naked bike. Installing HID's in halogen housings is disrespectful of oncoming traffic if not downright dangerous. The last thing you want to do is blind oncoming traffic.

I would not recommend it.

Depends on the housing.

No reflector housing will be as good as a purpose built projector lense (this should go without saying, yet every time I bring this up I get a bunch of morons telling me how stupid I am for not agreeing with them...)

But some reflector housings are better than others.
Some are as you described and are horrible. Others aren't so bad and just require you to be mindful of how they're aimed.

Whatever the case, if you decide to install an HID on your bike regardless of housing, at least have the common courtesy to have a friend sit on the bike while you get in your car and drive towards the bike with the light on at night. That way you can see for yourself if you are going to be blinding the shit out of everyone or not, and you'll get an idea of just how good/bad your aim is. I had to do this and adjust my own headlight several times to get the cut off just right.

my advise is to just get some PIAA bulbs and be done with it. I wrestled with the idea of putting HIDs in my bike more than once. With the ripping apart the whole front end for the install and having to get a the relay for delayed start so you don't pre-maturely burn out your bulbs.

I got the PIAA's and am very impressed with the performance over the stock bulb and the color is great. Glad I didn't spend the time and the money putting in HIDs

the bonus, I don't blind you old mo fro's with bad night vision

note: the original poster probably can't go back to his stock bulbs since his housing has already been modified for the HIDs and most likely doesn't have the stock parts still

Are you guys using HIDs for both Hi and Low beam? If so, does the warm up time when you switch to high beam bother you?

A dedicated high-beam housing will be aimed more forward, and so even with a "cold" HID bulb, the light should still be plenty. Once warmed up, if you are flicking them off for oncoming traffic, and then back on, they don't take as long to warm back up.

I'd argue bulb burnout is an overstated fear. Lot of people talk about it, but I don't' see too much first-hand evidence. I used HID high's as I pleased, just like halogens flicking them on, off, and back on to accommodate oncoming traffic and didn't experience a burn-out in 3 years. The cost is minimal, especially for bulbs alone. and considering the cost and time of shipping, I'd recommend anyone doing this just buy an extra set on the first order.

Can you tell best source to purchase HID.. I have been searching a lot and there are endless online stores.. I have never purchased them earlier so bit confused..Waiting for reply thanks in advance

That's where I grabbed mine and 1 year later they still work.

If you grab them make sure to get the slim ballast version. They are specifically made for bikes.

They make the slim digital ballast for bikes amd cars it is the same thing. If you get the car one though you get an extra one for a lot less. So order the car set and you will have an extra if anything happens.

I got a set from DMM... the set is nice bulbs are bright as hell... biggest issue tho is that I got the wiring harness to run them off my battery and the relay that is in the harness does not work when one light is the low beam and is supposed to be on for both low & high and the other light is supposed to be on for just the high beam... what I ended up doing was using the harness for the lowbeam only and running the high beam off of the factory wiring and it works... this winter im gonna have to tear the harness apart, schematic it out and get a replacement relay to make it work correctly. or i may not even bother with it. oh and their customer service/tech support was of no help what-so-ever. even over the phone it was pretty obvious that it was just a female secretary behind a desk with no technical background other than which nail file is which

I went with PIAA's which are not HID's but are much better than stock but as these guys said, if I went with HID's I'd go DDM 55w 5000k color. you can get them at www.DDMtuning.com

Another vote for the PIAA's,, a big step up from stock without all the HID drama.
