I finally caved and bought a Garmin Zumo XT after swearing I didn't need one for years. I know Basecamp can be a little challenging for people to learn, but I didn't expect to run into problems so quickly. Here's where I'm at:
- Garmin is connected to laptop (Mac) and connecting to Garmin Express
- Basecamp has all my routes loaded
- Basecamp doesn't seem to be seeing that my Garmin is connected (nothing showing up under "My Garmin Devices" and nowhere I can find to "add a device" or similar)
I assume once I get my Zumo to show up in Basecamp, adding the routes will be fairly straightforward, but I'm not sure how to get to that step.
Anyone familiar? The GPS doesn't show up in my Mac's finder or disk utility.

Is there a Device option in a toolbar somewhere? If so, keep the GPS connected and find the Check for Device Software Update option. I remember having a similar issue on a Win based PC and I believe that's what fixed it.
Express might be interfering.
Uncheck the Always Launch and Always Keep Express Running options

1. Quit Garmin Basecamp and Garmin Express if they are running.
2. Right Click on the black triangle on the top right corner of your display...on the ribbon bar, choose Preferences and UNCHECK both options.
3. With the Zumo XT DISCONNECTED, restart the Mac
4. After the computer is up and running, RECONNECT the Zumo XT to the usb port. Select OK and Continue (USB connection).
5. Start Gamin Basecamp and close the dashboard window.
6. Grab an ice cold beer, an Old Fashion, or a glass of wine (or all three) and watch as you Zumo XT data begins loading into Basecamp
Great!
Voodoo Ranger
Whiskey, straight
Argentinian Malbec
Or all three
Glad it worked out!
