I think he was trying to make the road on the left. He certainly initiated a turn to the left (just in front of the SUV).

Strange that he would take a left when his buddies went straight though. Maybe he was sightseeing and fixated?

Best I can tell, I think he fixated on the car and was running wide, then panicked and veered off.

The driver of that SUV did good to see the bike on a corner with the sun in their eyes and brake hard enough to nose down. The rider was very fortunate to both only be bumped (if at all) by the car and to shed speed over that long a distance, while missing the barbed wire and not having the bike land on him. What happened? Sure didn't look like a pass, more like a left u-turn with a surprise SUV in the middle. Looks like a straight rear brake skid toward the launch ramp too.

Looked like he was struggling to lean the bike over resulting in riding the yellow line through the turn. Panicked once he realized he and the oncoming SUV would be running close. Either decided at the last minute to try and go to the SUV's left, or just lost his brain and went straight.

My analysis is that that guy should play the lottery. Lucky SOB for surviving such terrible riding.

I notice just before he swerved into the oncoming lane, he rights his bike, then tries to lean into the turn again. Looks like he target fixated on the SUV halfway through the turn, but just didn't have enough time to recover his lean and panicked.

My money says he was simply sightseeing and ran wide, noticed it too late, tried for a second to correct it into the SUV then rode it out to launch into internet fame. They really weren't going too fast and the road wasn't twisty enough to surprise him and he wasn't closing on the truck ahead of him before he rode into the dirt so I don't see any mid-turn passing going on.

Looks like the bike in front of him just passed the truck. This guy was running wide to see around the truck, either couldn't hold the line or the radius reduced and ended up in the oncoming lane. At that point he had two options, barbed wire or hood ornament. Even though he is in pain, he chose wisely.

Reminds me of a Travis Pastrana crash from 199 lives. It was the one where it was before a big MX event, his dad told him not to try the jump, but he did anyway, and ate shit. He calls it the million dollar jump becasue thats what suzuki fined him or something.
