The piston in my Husqvarna 450 broke at the wristpin breaking the cylinder and bending valves. The piston was a aftermarket item I installed. It was from Fast By Ferracci. It was manufactured by Wiseco. Other than that I put 2300 virtually troublefree roadracing miles on it and it fell off Mt Washington.
yeah, totally normal for these motors from what i've read as well. mine consistently needs a little topping off after 2-3 tanks of gas (100 - 150mi), taking about 115cc to get the level just above the MIN mark. MAX = puke into airbox.
the SXVs have a clear 'sight tube' to view the oil level which can be tricky since the bike wants the oil level kept low, but when you use some on a ride, it can drop below the viewable area in the tube. with only ~1250cc total in the motor, you dont want to run too low for very long. just requires lots of babysitting to make sure the level is exact, even between the frequent changes. (really no big deal though)
