So after riding the guys RC51 that he wanted to trade me i am going to keep the 750. for some reason it felt like it had no power at all. it was my first ride on a vtwin and i was not impressed. anyway since im going to be keeping the little 750 is there much else i can do to it to get a little more out of it? I have a PC II with a generic map, and my D&D slip onI understand you can only get so much power out of it and it is a 10 year old bike now but maybe there are some little things that i can do. any ideas would be appreciated!

Make it lighter... Get a proper map, maybe an ignition advancer, shoehorn a 1000 in it...![]()

Shoulda traded!
What you experienced is the linear power curve of a V-Twin...different than an i4, you don't get that feeling of 'hyperspeed' when you get into the meat of the rev range. On twin, it just pulls like a motha from 4-5k to red line in every gear!

I guess i like the power of the I4...i didnt get to take it on that long of a ride. all i noticed is that the power did not hit at once like the 750 which i like. from a hard take off the front wheel will lift and stay there. the 51 didnt even come close....maybe its just me.![]()

If you can't loft the wheel in the 1st 3 gears on the 51 it is you...
I hear this alot though, people coming from an I4 to a Vtwin.
I am glad I have twins. I love low end grunt. I had a ZX7, it was NUTLESS down low, but had a Hyperdrive up high. I was not used to a bike pulling past 9000. when it did, WHOAH!

i love V-twins (though i've owned and enjoyed a few I-4s as well) but my first ride on an RC51 just felt weird. first gear was tall. the bike felt top heavy at low speed. the clip ones were a long reach. i didn't enjoy it till i got out in the back roads and opened her up a bit. in the corners at speed it was awesome. the motor wasn't stunning but it was just right in the right places. deffinatly one of my favorite bikes i ever road. it's on the list of bikes i would own.
If you can find one, the stock header from an '01 gsxr 1k it titanium, lighter and it probably flows a little better. Shouldn't be more than $100. Beyond that, a proper map and maybe 2 up on the rear sprocket. If that's not enough, cams.
I went from an '01 gsxr 1k to an '02 rc51. Bought the gsxr back from the dealer within two months. I kept the rc for a couple years, but it wasn't the bike for me in the end. IMO, it's a good bike that could be a great one with a few few thousand dollars thrown at it. At that point you could buy a mille, which is a great bike.
I only rode an RC51 once. Before I had my 998. (I had a 900ss at the time) It felt like a racebike, kinda like a tractor. Not really refined but like a rip stomping, snorting beast.
Not comfy, nothing like an inline 4.

But once you hit 6k in the twistie's it is like absolutely nothing you've ever ridden. My bike is fun to ride here and there and its ok in traffic, but open it up in the backroad's and it is absolute magic. It felt like a racebike, kinda like a tractor. I had the SV650 for all of 10 minutes before I took off from a traffic light and ran straight into the rev limiter. It wasn't just that I shifted a little late, I wasn't even thinking about shifting when it happened. I still chuckle when I picture what it must have looked like to someone watching.
I'm still trying real hard to like the bike, but riding it is sort of like having sex without the orgasm.
