I'm so glad there's no "resident cop" here

this is sort of on topic, I think. Anyway,

it seems like every other bike (or car) board I post on has one or two guys on it who are cops, and every time someone says something like "I was going 80 and got busted by some a--hole cop on 495 at midnight", the resident cop always pipes up and replies with some crap like "Well there son, you were, in point of fact, breaking the law. If you don't want to get tickets, don't speed." I mean christ, I don't irrationally hate all cops, I rationally hate most cops, because they're always giving me a hard time for doing trivial things that aught not to be illegal in the first place. Argh.

    I hate that damn guy.

So, in conclusion, yet one more reason that I really appreciate NESR is that there is no asshat resident cop. Thank you.

We have one or two police officers on here. The way I see it is if we had more the rode, we'd be better off.
Unfortunately, you are right, most cops get stuffed on these boards and turn defensive.

I remember on gixxer.com one cop saying if he pulls over a sportbike and sees a gixxer.com sticker, that rider would get a stiff VERBAL WARNING.

I'd take that over ink any day!

Even if you have to pretend, please show some respect.

    TIA

Just brings me back to what we talked about today at lunch... the person being stopped, more times than not, determines the outcome of the ticket... most times you're being pulled over cause it's thier job... not cause they care you were doing 80 on 495... specially when they'll be doing 90 on 495 on their way home...

Some cops are dicks... most I've met or worked with aren't... they have a job to do like everyone else... I'll write you a warning everytime for the menial shit... just don't be a dick... Chief stills wants to see the menial shit though... ya know...

    Umm dats it... carry on...

Some cops are cool some are bad

I think it depends what type of day they are having and how you respect them.

I got pulled over on I95 doing 90 mph last spring. It was the first nice day and my girlfriend and I went out for a rip. Went right by this undercover Police Officer. I had no motorcycle license, a passanger, no reg, and no insurance. He told me to drive straight home and gave me no ticket.

Another time when I first got my bike 3 years ago I thought it was cool to wheelie my bike in downtown Lowell. Got my first and only DTE. It was a hard lesson to learn but I was def in the wrong and would never do something that dumb again.

As said in the above post there is a place and time for everything. Play it safe and be smart and you will not have a problem.

Don't like tickets, don't drive fast. Just easy as that. I have no beef with any of the cops, including the ones who were tryin to "teach me a lesson" and gave me the largest fines they could produce. If you don't like cops, don't drive a bike. Most cops that have pulled me over have been decent even though they still ended up giving me a ticket. I was respectful every time, and they were curtious back.

Get off the street and onto the track if you don't wanna get a ticket. Until then, expect one if you speed regularly; I sure do.

Besides, do you think you would like bikers after seein all the bling-bling'ed out squids wreckin their GSXR's all over Boston???? I don't blame the cops, the majority of us are idiots.

That being said, I gotta hand it to the cops though, pulling over anyone has the potential to become one of those gory video's on COPS.

As painfull as this is to admit... I cannot disagree with anything in this post.... I must be losing my mind!!!

Just so you know, there are cops on every board I know of...including this one. Most of them are really cool.

If something is illiegal then it's illegal. You don't have to like it, you just have to accept it. If you break a law, don't hate the cop for catching you. If you know you are breaking the law and you get caught the only one who is at fault is you. All I know is there are a lot of cops on these boards who are really good people, and don't deserve getting shit for just doing there jobs.

tickets are the legalized theft of our money.
    nothing more nothing less.
if you condone it, you condone theft!
it has nothing to do with "the law" or safety.

Actually tickets are a monitary punishment for breaking the law...they can't really do that public spanking thing any more As far as laws just being rules made by fools, they make them to keep us safe. Granted, some laws don't make sence, but most do. When they are blatantly broken or exceeded, that is usually when the amount of people getting hurt and/or killed starts to rise dramatically. I personally do not want to get killed (or have any of my friends get killed) because someone thinks a speed limit or stop signs are rules that only fools follow (or should not apply to them)... remember Janklow (spelling?).

Don't get me wrong...do I speed? yes. Am I a moral or legal pillar of society? Not really. I just know when I am doing something wrong, and take responsability for it when/if I get caught.

I have no problems with speeding tickets IF it's a reasonable charge. In fact, I got a ticket a coupla weeks ago. He wrote me up for 78 in a 55 when in fact I was doing almost 90. I have no problems with the men & women that serve and protect, for the most part. Yes, I've had my share of run ins with the unreasonable ones. I've been involved in altercations with some officers that you wouldn't believe even if I told ya...

Look, I know it's a cliche, but they are JUST doing their job. They don't make the rules, they enforce 'em. And just like you & me, if they get caught NOT doing their job, they lose it...

We too have LEO's on this board, and at least one has been very forthright with us. A lot of times your attitude will dictate the outcome of a motor vehicle violation. Police for the most part are not bad people. Of course there's the hard ass ones out there, but those are the ones you gotta be the most careful with...

Case in point, my $86 ticket woulda been a 'must appear' if I was a dick. But I prefer to treat cops like I treat anyone else. We actually sat there and shot the shit about his unmarked CIVILIAN vehicle and the steps they take to disguise themselves. Believe me or don't, I had him laughing at one point...

That particular ticket I chose NOT to fight. He had me dead to rights, and he coulda EASILY made my life hellish if he wanted to...

BTW, FWIW-If ANY of you knew me say, 15 years ago, you'd NEVER believe I was saying ANY of this...

    ...flame retardant suit on...

because it's you, Mr. E, i have to disagree. mrgreen: you can do just about as well by paying attention WITHOUT a radar detector... i haven't been pulled over in years.
course, maybe that has more to do with my going the safe and legal speed at all times. yup. must be it.

ppppfffftttt... not if you want to get anywhere in a reasonable time

I have never gotten pissed at cop that gave me a ticket I deserved. It's the BS one that I have gotten that I shouldn't have..I went off on this lady cop in Raleigh. They are real bad when it comes to spped traps there. It's like every once in awhile(like once a month) they decide to "crack down". It is obvious they are everywhere. So I'm getting ready to leave my office one day and someone tells me "they" are out. So I stick to 60 in a 55 and set the cruise crtl. I see this Jetta come flying up up my ass(same color as my car) and he is cuttin in and and out of traffic. Doin atleast 70-75. Next thing you know I get pulled over....and written up a ticket for 67-55. WTF!!! I was very nice and polite up until she handed me the ticket. I asked "How fast are you saying I was going?" She tells me what the ticket says and I tell that is impossible I had my cruise set...didn't you see that Black Jetta flyin in and out of traffic. She didn't answer and started walkin away...She I start with my usual rage of obsanities(sp?) to her about She is a dumb c*nt, doesn't know WTF she is doing....how she has no idea how to keep the roads safe(if you've ever driven in Raleigh you'd understand...it's like a 2 weeks waiting list for most body shops). I tried to fight is..I got it reduced but they didn't want to hear it.

I just wish that tickets didn't effect your ins. so much. The fine part is easy...for the most part.

im not a cop. But more often than not I will side with them. If you are speeding I dont see how you can justify getting mad at the cop.

And saying speed limits have nothing to do with safety is pretty ignorant as far as Im concerned

for most people it's not like doing a 100 from point A to point B. it's reasonably safe. what does that mean? beats me. ask the dick cop i guess cause he owned us all.

I hear ya...me too But the saftey thing is relative. Someone who knows how to drive/ride well and can handle their vehicle will be drive faster and more safely then someone who cannot drive/ride well. These people will not be safe at those speeds. It comes down to the drivers ability IMO, but there is no way to differentiate the 2.
