Im willing to bet its because the rear wheel is in the air and the transmission isnt under load. My bike does the same exact thing. Not being technically savvy with all the right vocab I believe its cause by the shift dogs not properly engaging. So as the they rotate they come in contact and cause the transmission to bind for a sec.

On my rc is will even jump a bit from time to time when its engaged with the rear in the air. When its on the ground and under load its as smooth as ever.

All bikes do that under no-load conditions.

Thanks. I've never noticed anything when riding and this was the first time that I have ever had it in gear when it was on the rear stand - makes me nervous to have it running when in the air but I just wanted to give the chain a little once over instead of a full clean due to the dirt roads we got stuck on yesterday. If that's not a run on sentence then I don't know what is .

I think most of us learned this way. I had just put my wheel back on and decided it would be easier to check the chain to make sure its aligned right and lube it up while it was still on the stand. I thought the bike was going put itself through the roof. First thing I thought was oh shit time for a tranny rebuild. I then sent a message to one of my friends that knows the RC in an out and just did a transmission rebuild on his track bike and then one to Degsy. Both kind of said the same thing. Once I put the bike on the ground and tried it out very cafeully it was just as good as ever.

You weren't doing the quick cleaning of your chain with the bike running in gear were you I hope?

Even at an idle, that machine can screw you up real bad.

I did. I admit it. I had it in gear and sprayed the bitch down. Didn't touch it - just sprayed to get the dirt out.

Cloth or fingers will be grabbed and cut off

in 0.001 seconds

Good worrying but looks normal

If water don't leave a chain just sprayed. A short ride will throw boil moisture off the chain.

Every 500 mi I get in there with a toothbrush and WD40 (not a spray bottle) and clean it really well then go at it with a cloth to get the gunk out then I spray lube it. None done with bike on or in gear. This time it just needed a little help though due to the dirt/gravel roads we got stuck on the day before so I just went at it with a little WD spray and spray lube as a quick go. I do it for real in a couple hundred more miles. It was just done but that dirt road dried it right out.

If you bang it off the limiter in aevery gear while on the stand that action will smooth right out.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT use WD40 on your chain. It dries out the O-Rings and you will start to get locked links and replace it sooner than needed.

If you are gonna clean it use something else man even kerosene is better.

It's the propellent in the wd40 cans that fucks up the o-rings. Use the big containers in a cup and you're all good.

22k on my last chain, always use WD in the spray can to clean it.

Of course, I'm the chain lube nazi. I have been known to lube other people's chain just cause it bothers me to see a dry chain.

I guess I should ask one of the RC51 guys what they use. I'd much prefer to get like 8 or 10 miles out of a chain and sprockets
