Went to dinner last night with some friends, and on the way home she died on me.
So I follow a friend, we get on the highway , no prob, and we are under the covered highway over a bridge on 93, north of boston (no breakdown lanes) and the fucking bike just DIES on me!!!!!
I coast no knowing what to do, then I see Jersey barriers, and can finally pull over.
I get really pissed, then try to call a friend who was with us. no answer, i figure he already was on the bike, then I was gonna try someone else, but said screw it.
Then I got thinking, When we met at dunkin earlier, I met skiierx (thanks so much for the seat dude!!) from this board who sold me a new seat and we put it right on.... I figure the new seat rubbed the battery and shorted something.
So I pop the trunk, and I didnt think I had my keys with a flashlight on them in my bag, but I did! I looked around and found a blown 20A main power fuse!!!!!!
wooohooo!
but no spare fuses
But also, when we were at dunks, i needed change for ATM 20's to buy the seat, so I went to CVS and bought a huge arizona can of green tea. The can was still in my bag!!!!
I snapped off the pull tab, then flexed the pulltab back and forth until that snapped in half. Then I took the "u" shaped metal and stuffed it in the fuse holder... BIKE FIRED RIGHT UP!!!! Got on it and limped it home.
93 was PACKED with traffic
And then it started raining. The whole time I was riding I was trying to keep my weight off the seat so whatever touched didnt touch again.

I was so happy to get it running, it was late, I was tired, and i was in a very bad spot on the highway, with no tools.
Nice job on getting the bike running. I wonder what happened? I did notice that the bike was missing the cover that goes over the battery and all the other wiring. Since the Corbin has stainless brackets that mount to the subframe maybe they rubbed against the wiring. Just a thought. If I was you I would hit the rc board and see if anyone has a battery box cover, they will probably give it to you with you paying shipping. One thing to try is electrical tape on the two brackets, see if that works. I know the stock seat has plastic mounting bracket so that is probably what it is.
Good meeting you last night and hope you enjoy the comfort of the Corbin.

yeah, im 99% sure it was the bracket on the seat, like I said, the previous owner did a pretty terrible job with the wiring on the bike. I probably wont bother with the battery box cover, Ill just put some sore of barrier beterrn the seat and battert and I am sure it will be fine. I can already tell the seat is gonna be awesome, wI was suprised how different it feels. I thought it was just softer, but its more like it curves up on the sides so you sit on your ass, and not just the bones in your ass. I am impressed. Just need a steering stabilizer and Il think Ill be set for a while!
Cooler heads prevail, nice job on the fix.
ALSO, tonight i am making a small tool kit with electrical tape, a 10mm wrench, and spare fuses and putting them in my trunk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Impressive. I can only hope to be as cunning if I am stuck with a broken bike...
wouldnt it make sense to see what that blown fuse was for? that way you know exactly what circuit it was on? maybe im wrong, just my way of thinking of tracing the problem. sweet fix on the fuse though! i woulda pushed that pig.
Tuono
pushed it through the tunnel and up over tobin bridge with no break down lane, then the rest of the 35 miles home?
And its the main fuse from the battery, which sits directly under the new seat that just got put on. bike runs fine, change 1 thing on the bike, bike dies. leads me to think it is the seat. Its absolutely NOT the best thing to do, and its possible I could have caused more damage. But with the options I had, it was the best chance.
I definitely heard the MacGuvyer music playing in my head as I was reading the last part.
Nice diagnosis, even nicer fix!
ahahahahaha, thanks!
haha I agree....you weren't in boston on brighton ave were you? I saw an rc51 infront of White Horse Tavern taking off around 11 or something.
no, Me and 2 R1's, and 5 subarus went from Waltham to Malden to Texas Roadhouse!!!!!!
Now THIS is thinking outside of the box. This is a story I would present to potential interviewers.
