Has anyone used Pirelli Diablo Supersport tires? (Pirelli Diablo Supersport Rear Tire - Motorcycle Superstore)

It's getting harder to find 16" fronts for my CBR, so I'm looking for a change, as Avon discontinued the Azaro in 07.

It's a good tire. I had it on my old bike ( 97 zx6r ). But...if you could find 16" front of Metzeler M3, Michelin Pilot Power, Pirelli Corsa 3 I'd go with one of those.

no warmers - just take two mild laps around - the're the soft compound, and man those things are fun as hell. i finally felt the "controllable slide" people talk about and it was awesome

The Power never came in the 16" front.

I still have Pilot Sports in the 130/70-16.

    $59.95 on closeout...

One other thing I forgot to mention is that I'd like to find a tire that compares in wear to the Avon Azaros they'll be replacing. I have 11K on the set I have now and the only reason for replacing the rear is the flat center from all the slabbing I do heading into work.

This makes it a little harder to find.

I've used the diablos before and I've liked them..in fact, there's a set on my wife's bike right now. However, I don't think you'll get 11k out of a set. If you're looking for pirelli, look at the Diablo Stradas...they are a harder compound in the center for the slab, and the softer Diablo compound on the edges. The should wear a bit better for commuting and highway, but still give you a "sport" tire grip on the sides. Not sure if they have a 16" version, but you could always go Diablo on the front and Strada on the rear to get that longer life

I Looked into the Stradas and they don't make the 16" front.

Might be my riding style, but my front Azaro is wearing faster than my rear.

Would running a sport touring tire in the rear and a supersport tire in the front be bad? 2 different types of compound?

I'm not sure I've ever been "proper fucked" before. Perhaps its because I'm married?

I've been told that you can still ride slicks in the rain, just have to be very careful....mind you this person has done when it rained during a TD to show ppl that they shouldnt fear riding in the rain.

I can't speak from experience with slicks, but I have ridden DOT race tires in the rain and they're slippery enough that I wouldn't bother. Race tires need heat which the rain takes away and don't have enough tread to deal with water on the track. Slicks are just going to be worse in both regards...

Personally, I can't see buying even race tires unless you've got a dedicated track bike that's never going to see the street. Slicks? Only if you plan on racing them in a class that allows them and have a second set of wheels for the rain. People have put down amazing laps on pilot powers, qualifiers, etc.

On the street? Stick to street tires unless you're dead-set on saving a buck and have a steady stream of takeoffs that you only plan on using in nice weather. Race tires are expensive, won't last as long, and will feel sloppy as hell when they're cold or when it rains. Slicks on the street? Forget about it.

I agree with you on all your points...I was just throwing out the fact that I've heard ppl running slicks on wet/rainy TDs

As long as the profiles are the same, you should be ok. I'm 99.9% sure the Diablo and Diablo Strada are the same profile. I've always figured if I run mixed, I want the "stickier" tire in the front, but the edges on those two are the same compound so you shouldn't have a disparity of grip.
