Is it basically acceptable to weave in and out of traffic at a slightly higher controlled speed as opposed to following traffic in the outside lane at cruising speed? ( I mean, being passed on the inside and seeing riders weaving and making progress way ahead of you)

Turn signals will help if a LEO doesn't like what he sees with your weaving around traffic...

I guess this is a taboo subject.... I'm not condoning weaving in traffic, it's just that you see riders moving around quit a bit.
i stay in the lane that provides me with the best visibility (refer to your MSF book)
Make sure the signals are a full 3 seconds before you initiate a turn.
Several video taped turns without signals by undercover po-po usually leads to an aggressive driving ticket.
A friend of mine (might be me) was on his way to work in Boston, Monday am grid lock and was straddling the dotted line between #2 &3 going pretty slow, came up on unmarked cruiser in left - he flashed lights on and off, pointed behind him and didn't pull over --I err.. he waved a thank you and no foul.
no, it's not acceptable to weave thru traffic
I wish that keep right except to pass and no passing on right were enforced like in Europe
I find that most of the people that complain about left lane hogs are usually left lane hogs themselves

It depends on your definition of weaving. If you mean cruising in the lane to the right of the left hand lane and only weaving into the left lane to pass, I'd say, "yes." If you mean passing cars on the left and right ... you're probably eventually going to be lost by the cagers mirrors and squashed.

I don't weave. It seems to piss off Mass cages, and initiate road rage.
unless you're like me and female and can get away with it![]()
I've been stopped twice for passing on the right in slow or stopped traffic (state and local PD). Both times I've told them that I saw something in the AMA Magazine that said a law had passed in the state making it legal for motorcycles to pass on the right...played dumb. Got off both times with a warning. Passing on the right will get you a ticket. It's a stupid law. I can imagine that the same cops will write you up for lane splitting. I'm careful when I do either.
