i went thru about 2 months ago and it was dug up in a bunch of places.
anyone been in the last few weeks?
is it all paved?
Just asked a coworker - it's still torn up. At least as of the other week or two.
Still sections dugged up. Yeah, I said 'dugged'...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I propose we put together the first annual Spank the Kanc TT race next season! its easy we just get Red Bull and Pirelli etc to foot the bill shut it down for a week for practice and racing. bring in barriers etc and line the whole thing. hell even have vintage and sidecars and groms and all kinds of stuff. could probably find some way to incorporate BNR into it too. yea buddy fresh pavement on the Kanc!!! lol (Kinda serious tho this could happen and would be amazing. just sayin)

wish it was paved![]()
The Kanc was always in appalling shape, even dating back to 2012 or 2013. Frost heaves like you wouldn't believe.
The Kanc is OK, but over-rated/over-hyped in my opinion (kinda like Sam Adams and Starbucks). There are so many fun roads in NH that aren't loaded with tourists driving slowly... Especially in the south west area of the state.

I'm not really finding anything that is like the kanga... Maybe mohawk trail.. but less turns and tight

The Kanc is cool because of the lack of homes/businesses and side roads, and 30ish mile length, I'll give you that... Try 118 between 25 to 112 up near the Kanc. It's very similar, a bit curvier and usually desolate as it's a great shortcut form nowhere you'd want to be to nowhere you'd want to go.
There aren't any roads similar to the Kanc in southwestern NH, but there are tons of fun roads out there if you happen to like relentless curves, covered bridges, and fetching little villages. Many are numbered (state) routes, but there are countless more town/county roads that are hidden gems.

how bout linking even better ride links say West Shore Road-North Groton Road-Halls Brook Road via 118 & the Kanc to Bear Notch Road
The best roads are not numbered state highways, and sometimes they are dead end
the Kanc will always have either frost heaved or torn up sections, its 30+ miles to maintain, it will always be done in sections, it would have to rain money to see it all done it at once, and would likely result into the entire length becoming broken and heaved at once

There's are plenty of entertaining roads in NH, but for endless fun the DAKS are tough to beat. And getting there through VT is plenty entertaining too!
Full disclosure - as I get older I'm more easily entertained....!

I find I see way more Leo's in vt
I just came back from the Highland Games and took the Kanc home, not in too bad shape

Ahhh.. Ya I've seen that on the map. But isn't it a hike?
Or a nice ride, if you go the right way.

Duuuuude, you're talking to my guy all wrong here.
Turn that frown upside down, book a nite at a b&b out there, or pack up the camping gear, and go for a weekend.
Or wait for Dave to post next years thread, and he'll do all the work for you.
