Some of you may have seen pics of this bike before, I sprayed it white after i had an off that cracked up the fairings. Well its apart again for paint. Why? good question. The official story (so i could get my dad to let me use his garage to do this) is that i went to get wax off the shelf and knocked a bottle of paint thinner that wasnt fully closed onto the bike. (lol) the real story is that the first time I painted it I used really cheap paint and i was terribly unhappy with it, so after going for a ride last week and almost dying between the sand, pot holes, and people who forgot what a motorcycle is, I figured taking it apart to re-paint it will kill 2 birds with one stone for me. Fix the paint, and make it so i cant ride it for a little while. for those who dont recall, heres a picture of her.
the paint will stay mostly the same (just a better paint, and hopefully less orange peel), only a few things are being changed, most wont even be noticed, the most noticeable change will be that all the logos (that i never applied) will be painted on instead of decals. I will also be adding a carbon fiber front fender (notice in the pic my fender is busted and im using white duct tape to hold it together) and chain cover.
heres the progress,
almost apart:
Today, finished 8 coats of championship white.
up next, after the white cures, it will be masked in order to spray the jet black.
BUMMER on the reason for painting.
KUDOS on the job your doing.
Cant wait to see the end product.

sorry if the pics are a lil blurry, taken with my phone.
masked up for the black.
5 coats of jet black sprayed
beginning to remove the masking
all un masked
next step is to fix the edges of the black where there's a little over spray, then, once i get the logo templates in, ill start spraying the red.
coming out nice so far.

well i did a ton of white coats because the first time i did it you could see differences in the panels (tail fairing is plastic, tank is metal, fairings are fiberglass) and i only planed on doing 3 coats of black, but of course coat 3 went on a little too thick and had some waves, so it got wet sanded, and then 2 more coats were applied to ensure even-ness. and yes, there is much wet sanding going on.
tail fairing cleared, cured, and installed. side note, i also coated the frame on a light coating of teflon, in hopes that dirt and grease wont stick to it so much, lets see how this works.

I'm liking the black and white scheme, and don't forget the stickers.
Carbon fiber front fender. picked this up on ebay from "bestem usa", it was surprisingly cheap, along with the other CF stuff they have for my bike (and others) so i ordered the fender to see the quality, and honestly its spot on, the weave is nearly perfect with the exception of one spot looks like it got slightly stretched (barely noticeable), and the clear coat and fitment were awesome, i will definitely be ordering more parts from them.
and fitted the main fairing.

Today's progress
and then later it was all clear coated. oh and yes i fixed the stripe on the lower fairing.
tanks on, everythings polished up, just waiting on a few accessories to get here before its done.
