I got out to the parking lot at work today to find that my bike had been backed into. Not much cosmetic damage but the fork is definitely bent.
Person must've picked up the bike before driving off. Nice of them.
I know there are a lot worse troubles out there right now, but I had to vent. Haven't even had the thing a month yet!
Does work have security cameras?
Some girl hit a parked Star cruiser at my work. Did nearly a grand in damage to the saddlebag!

i never park my bike in a lot. i park it on a curb by the door or some where out of the way.
My buddy had some women do that to his bike last year...whike he was still on it! People are asshats. Sorry bud.
a few years ago my car was hit in a lot. I left late at night and didn't see the damage till next morning. i checked the spot where my car was hit and found some side marker plastic that wasn't mine. a quick check of the lot turned up the car that had virtually no damage except for a marker light....hummm. she finally fessed up saying that she didn't think it was that bad. CRIKES it was over a thousand bucks. i know i got lucky on that one BUT i bet someone saw your bike get hit! ask around. chances are though unless you ride a moped some guy put the bike upright.

Thanks guys! I figured this wasn't a rare thing around here.
Unfortunately no cameras were pointed the right way to get it. I'm gonna be looking hard for this person and asking around. It's a big place but I have some leads. Also, there was some brown paint transfer on the front fender.
Plastic seems amazingly untouched. Crossing my fingers she's not totalled.
If only I had gotten some more time in before this crap, I'd be looking for a second bike anyways. As it is, I'd only ridden her about 1200 miles.
I would forget claiming the damage (as it will come out of your pocket via your deductable followed by a rate increase for a period of time) and try sourcing replacement forks.
Post up what kinda bike you have. Someone could possibly have something.
It's an '04 GS500f in blue. I actually found somebody with a straight pair of fork tubes in on gstwins.
Unfortunately, I think it's too late to cut the insurance co out of this. The security guard called the cops for me when I asked him if he had seen anything and they filed a report.
If they decide it needs brand new fork tubes on both sides, I bet she will be totalled.
At any rate, if they total her I'm buying her back and fix this myself (assuming no frame damage, which seems unlikely). Have a garage and a haynes, and wanted to get some progressive front springs anyways to combat the huge brake dive.
Always planned to keep her as a track/loaner bike when I upgraded...
Just because the police have a report on file doesn't mean you *must* file a report with your insurance provider. If you actually want it totalled so you can get a new bike that's a different story, otherwise it is 100% your choice to call your insurance company and file a repair claim regardless of the police generating a report.
