CFMoto has been making components for them for years and KTM own a stake in them. I think the current Duke 790 is being made by CFMoto. They’re also making their own bike with the 790 engine the CFMoto Ibex 800. Doesn’t bother me at all, like I said KTM’ve been using the parts for years and are presumably overseeing quality control in some way.

I agree - I wouldn’t worry too much about quality. My iPhone is made in China and is top notch quality.
The Ibex 800 I saw in person. I think it is too big. Honesty, having test ridden the 890 adventure at DirtDaze I am concerned about refinement of the Ibex. I found the 890 Adventure less refined than my less expensive Tuareg- engine, suspension, controls. Definitely had more power and felt only marginally heavier due to good weight distribution. I wish all manufacturers had back lit controls at night - so simple but so useful. I suspect that the ibex may be less refined than the 890 Adventure. It is also heavier than the KTM by quite a bit

The Scrambler 1200XE has back kit controls. First bike I’ve owned with them, never even thought about it, but now I’m surprised it’s not more common.

I didn't realize DirtDaze was in Australia this year.

This site is funky posting pictures, I’ve learned, however the orientation of your phone is when you take the photo, hold it upright and take a screenshot of the pic, they usually end up right side up.

I mean, I’ve done probably 20-25 track days over the past 10 years, but I’m slow AF. Back 5-6 years ago, I was doing about 6 TD’s per year on my track-only F4 and was a slow Yellow pace. Since then I’ve only done about 1 day a year and that was on my FZ6, my shitbox F4i, and most recently my DR790 sumo in Red group.
I had only put maybe 100 miles on the SMT before tracking it so I was still getting used to it. Someone on NER posted their spot for sale so I bought it from him. I figured with it being a non-sportbike day, and being a new-to-me bike, I’d be less tempted to full-on send it, since I had to ride it home later that day.
At lunchtime I put all the clickers back at the “standard” setting, the PO had then all a little stiffer, closer to the “sport” settings in the manual. Honestly don’t know if that helped or hurt any (ref being slow AF).
The PO also spent a good bit of time/money trying to help tame the off-on throttle snatchiness (intake/exhaust/tuning, and a G2 throttle tube), even still it is quite aggressive, needs a cautious right wrist. Don’t think it’s as bad as my FZ6 was, but the low-end grunt of the 990 doesn’t make it any easier. My carbed F4 was absolutely perfect in this regard - I used to get so pissed riding my FZ6 to work on Monday after riding the F4 at the track over the weekend.
But yeah, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring it to a regular trackday if I didn’t have a less-expensive or track-only bike to flog instead.
