Leaving a bike on an open trailer, in a city

I am heading to NYST tomorrow, they have informed me that the gate closes at 10pm sharp for the night. It will be nearly impossible for me to get there in time if I have to go home and pick up my trailer after work. So, I am looking for bright ideas for bringing my fully loaded rig into Providence tomorrow. I have an open trailer, so street parking on the East Side as I normally would is not a great option. Thoughts? Anyone ever try bringing a trailer into a public parking garage? Not that those are really any more secure...

Possibly, but its a tight parking garage that costs $20/day. I don't think they would even let me bring a trailer in.

I used to park the bike overnight on the street in Southie all last year, the night before a track day. Honestly, it is a very very bad idea and I am surprised I still have the bike, or that trailer, or even that truck. Try not to do it.

P.S: I'm looking forward to NYST this weekend, I'll see you there! I can't wait to try this whole motard thing.

Any chance you can get the bike in the van? Even just sitting on the stand, so it's out of sight. Then load it up in the morning?

Pistorius, in case you didn't know, if you get to NYST past 10PM and no one answers the phone to open the gates, you can park outside the gate, but just slip in via the fence by foot and setup camp. The fence doesn't extend past a few feet on either side, and if you walk to the left, you can get into the grounds, setup tent and go to bed.

Of course, if you have a sweet sleeping setup in your van this doesn't help you. But just saying...

Get a locking hitch pin so nobody takes the trailer, insurance on the bike, a disc lock through the rear rotor sothey can't roll away with it quietly and a stockton chain lock from cyclegear for $20 so they can't pick it up

If you have a receiver lock and a hitch lock, and a chain to attach the bike frame to the trailer frame, you can probably be reasonably safe leaving it overnight for one night.

Nothing's ever foolproof when it comes to people stealing your stuff, but if you make it a big enough of a pain, thieves will *usually* move on.

Theft is a crime of opportunity, the first night it's there there's a remote chance someone with the right tools will see it and take a chance. If it's there 5 nights in a row, somebody might decide to bring their hacksaw with them on the 6th night.....

Put a cover on it.

Ask a dealership near by if you can store it for the day. I'm sure any kind of powersports place would be sympathetic to your situation and let you stick it in a lot just for the day.

There is a 24/7 walmart 45 minutes from the track. I slept there since I couldn't make it there in time as well.

Is the problem that you can't get there in time if you have to go home first. But if you can have the bike and trailer close to work then you can get there in time?

I would think that someone here has a house close or between your work and NYST.

I wasn't feeling adventurous, so I ended up leaving the trailer at home, then splitting a hotel room with DanRo. Lame, I know.
