I just received the following e-mail on the ld riders list...
the heat-troller for the gerbings I just bought IS one of the blue ones he is talking about I think

now that mother nature is dealing us a blow with not so amicable
temps i would like to remind you of the Heatroller issue that
surfaced last year.
it seems the creator of the Warmnsafe heatroller that was supplied
to the gerbing's line of heated clothing took a wrong turn. in a
move that is recurring all too often as some of you are aware
Gerbings decided to have another company manufacture and supply its
customers with a "Blue" color temp controller. it turns out this
item just happen to have been copied from the original controller
manufacture ven with its inherant flaws.
seems the heatroller manufacture failed to take the steps to ensure
his product stayed his and business being what it is turned on the
heatroller company.
however, as unethical as this past event may have been those of you
that have unkowingly purchased a NEW BLUE gerbing's temp controller
perform this little test,
if when you are plugged into your power source take the end designed
to attach to the heated gear to metal and see if the little light
indicator comes on.
if so you have a bad unit and it WILL stop working eventually.
the original heatroller owner became aware of this problem and mae a
correction to prevent this. he does have and upgrade program on his
website to correct this problem.
i strongly suggest anyone with the Blue Gerrbings unit take
advantage of this; for those that dont and maybe riding with me and
start complaining of no heat situation just understand that shit-
eating grin i give you is ... well just my way of saying "Told You
So"! i might even suggest something to the effect of "No Whiners"
among other items of endearment.
and yes i know the possibility of the heatroller failure as well
but i always ensure i have some sort of redunancy when riding.
of course your individual mileage and situation maybe differant but
you have been advised.
take care and oh, stay warm!

So is it just an issue of having the hot connection being the exposed terminal on the connector?
I dunno, I am trying to find out ifanybody knows about this, or is it an internet rumor. I am going to call Venco Wings where I bought mine and see if they know anything.
