    Destinations for Moto Holiday

So, I missed the CST last year due to my new job.

This year it seems the CST is not happening.

I need some good ideas for a Moto adventure for a week.

Id like to do a mix of riding, maybe a night or two of camping, a bit of sightseeing, etc.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Destinations for Moto Holiday

I've always wanted to get back out to Moab Utah but I can't imagine the logistics of getting out there with my bike would be very cheap or easy. Maybe some day I'll own a suitable adventure bike that I could ride out there & spend a couple weeks exploring & camping.

This is on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands Nat'l Park.... Walk forward 2 feet... fall down 1500.

Ive been to Moab, it is very cool.

Problem is, I think its too far for a week.

I want to ride a few hundred miles a day wit some wiggle room. I imagine utah is 5000 ish round trip??

Yeah, 5000k mile trip at least. I'd definitely wanna take a few weeks off for that. Missed the "for a week" part.

    Pacific Coast Highway?

I drove it last christmas and it was about 70-80 degrees the whole trip up from San Diego to San Francisco and what a fucking view out there.

also we didnt follow the true PCH but from the few times we got back on it the roads seemed pretty good for a bike ride.

Do you think its reasonable to ride a motorcycle to and from california in a week?

Manny, how bout Nova Scotia, Canada?
A quick google maps route shows that you could ride all the way up, no ferries, do a full loop of the island & be back home in under 2500 miles.

In case my edit goes unnoticed, southern VA, WestVA, North GA. Or NY/PA. You could put a great week together there.

Ya, that is certainly an option.

It would have been a no brainer had the ferry still been operating. Maybe it still will.

The issue is I need to book the time off now.....so I gotta have something at least in the works.

    Manny,

Just don't underestimate the size of Nova Scotia, it is beautiful but big. I went up there on bikes with a group of friends summer 2008 and we figured we could stay in Truro and do day trip loops to all the different parts of the island. We had 400+ mile days every day and when we went to the Cabot trail we wound up staying at a hotel the night before on that side of the island because riding out there and back to the house would have been ridiculous.

Obviously if you are taking your clothes etc. with you every day and staying where ever you ride to then this wouldn't be an issue! But it still is a big island.

PEI is beautiful as well, we went there one day during the week and only wound up seeing half that island as well.

Also as Paul suggests the Mid Atlantic States offer so great riding as well as some good destinations for sight seeing etc.

    Re: Destinations for Moto Holiday

Wasnt there a rider here who did a ride out to cali and back and hit up some crazy looking crater lake?

that would be a good ride. you could probably be a badass and make it to the rockies and back in a week and hit up some crazy roads there and one the way.

    Re: Destinations for Moto Holiday

Manny, have you considered trailering your bikes to... say....VA if you were to ride mid-atlantic region? You could go there in 1 day, leave truck and trailer, jump on bike all fresh and not tired and still have 5 days of riding to do. Could do a loop VA, WV, NC, GA or smth like that. You avoid boring ride through major cities, and still have 1 day to drive back.
I'm planning to do smth like this next season.

Or... you could always fly down to Cali and rent a bike.
