110 to me is pretty High, isnt NHIS lower?
Exactly. Performance mod? not really. Annoyance mod?, yes. Sorry, I didn't get into motorcycling so I can get more "look at me" time.Originally posted by stoinkythepig
nor do I; never see straight pipes on a sport bike though. Straight pipes are what I dislike. WAAAAY too loud and for no purpose other than to annoy.![]()

I don't see this as an attack on bike week or an attempt to protect us from ourselves. Contrary to what the orginal post states, it's a state law being proposed, not a local ordinance. It would apply outside of Laconia and not just during bike week.Originally posted by dhuze
Half of the Laconia area depends on bike week to keep their bussiness's open all year. The owner of Meredith Harley Davidson said he could only needed to be open for bike week to make a living. many of the bussiness know this. It's not them making up the laws it's the old farts and whineass's who are trying to protect me and you from ourselves.
So your telling me that a group of 10 - 50 motorcycles with exhausts with less than 110db will just go along quietly.
They have been trying to kill bike week for years now they are even trying to scale it back . If you notice the vendors have to close ealier and earlier each year. It's not about noise it's about stopping bikes
It's an attack on loud noises, period. I don't mind a bit of excess noise provided by after market exhaust systems and most people probably don't either, but some bikes have become painfully loud as of late. Why should anyone have to endure pain just so some guy with a small dick can compensate by making lots of noise? It's especially irritating to me since I know it's for no good purpose other than to make as much noise as possible. That's silly and most people would agree.
What I don't understand is the need for more laws. Seems there are already laws on the books against this sort of thing. To me it would make a lot more sense to just enforce the existing laws.
If I had to choose between having to endure absurdly loud bikes or the end of someone's business that can only survive if loud bikes are tolerated, I'll choose the death of those businesses. That said, bike week won't die just because people can't have loud bikes there. It didn't die every other time the police made it less "fun". I went last year and found it wildly crowded yet utterly dull. Everyone looked like they were waiting for something fun to happen but nothing ever did. Still crowded though.

Same for me for the last 5 years. It's just gettin old.
As someone with a bike with a loudness problem(not loud enough to hear it running when behind a diesel truck), I can say I agree with the ordinance. There is no need for REALLY loud bikes anymore.

I think we're getting old, more than it getting old. I've seen all the drunks and tits I care to, they're all pretty much the same.
You sit, not moving, in traffic and listen to loud ass bikes reving. For hours. Whoopdedoo.
At some point, you get tired of the party, it's just another buzz. There needs to be more to Laconia than drinking, tits and loud pipes. I want to hit Americade just to see people do something with their bikes besides pose and rev.

Sold my old boat, but there's lots of others for sale. If you see a green boat named "Navis Verde" (latin for green boat) on the lake, get my attention and I'll take ya for a ride in my new boat.
Navis Verde
I'm so proud...
No. Exup is a valve(s) located mid exhaust which controls exhaust pressures.Originally posted by richw
Is exup a baffle ?
Law passed. 106 dB limit (no idea about the measurement parameters) and no "straight" pipes.

Rat Shack sells SPL meters. I forget what they cost but I think it's less than $50.
I have a sound meter at my office, I can prolly snag it for a ride sometime.
I'm going to have to check mine, it was mentioned to me at RMS that inspection stations are going to become pricks about aftermarket exaust, cause the state is going to be doing a lot mor monitoring of inspections with the new computer system they are required to have.
I think worse case I will have to repack my exaust, I don't think I will have to put the stocker back on

got dc reader how high and far back does it need to be? To get the law-able reading?
Bikeless
My guess would be 1 meter, dbm is a fairly standard distance-weighted reading.Originally posted by Sidewinder

That's a radius distance but it assumes a radiant source, since exhaust is a directed source your worst case reading (and most relevant) is going to be at the height of the exhaust outlet, 1 meter back.
I can't remember what the exact distance from the pipe the meter is to be held but I do remember that it is held at the same height as the outlet and at a 45 degree angle from it to get the radiant sound and not the direct blast.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
you non-loud pipe sportbike gonna get harass too. i don't think any dumbass cops can tell if it's 105db or 107db. you gonna get stop just to test your sound.
"fuckit!"
uodate.
I was wrong, it has not passed yet. Just passed in one of the governing bodies, either the house or the senate can't recall which and it really does not matter. Needs to get through both to be law.
