Of course I got a ticket
My fault; big ride without radar detector installed. Will be operational within a week
The real reson I won't reccommend a return is there are many big straight highways speed limit 50 MPH.
In Texas these would be 70 MPH. The closed minded greedy officials don't seem to smell in a big state you need to cover ground. I am sure if I had a Maine tag it would be a warning or greatly reduced.
The ugliest fact is there are miles of almost straight highways with a few houses where the speed limit is 35 !!!
like 10 mile stretches WTF. Our normal activities would be impound level offenses.
Then the idiots after setting up a speed trap style system I am informed that if cited again in Maine they will remove my Maine driving privaledges for a year. The tourist board will be happy to know that I will avoid that possibility for many years.
After the boring Maine roads and their hospitality I droned home on the expressways. All together 680 miles with all the fun south of the NH border![]()

texas also doesn't have the frost heave problem, while the roads you were on might have been smooth this year, it a couple years they will be broken up and unsafe over 50,
I remember when the Maine state speed limit was 45

"fuckit!"
i would expect nothing less from the "Vacation State".
northern ME without interstate is really fun. I've never had a problem in the northern areas with the speed limit on those types of roads.

Just came back from there (not with the bike though). There was some serious twists up near Skowegan(sp?) on Route 201. Definately want to go up there later... saw a few packs of riders, mostly crusiers though.

Mike

I've never had a bad vacation on two wheels or four in the state of Maine. As a matter of fact, I'll be in the Sebago Lake area in about 3 weeks. Too bad your particular timing was poor, but to each his own I guess.
P.S. Lake Winnipesaukee is in New Hampshire.
see ya,
DJD
also Sebago Lake really isn't Maine its been infested with all the people from CT.

2007 Husky SMR 510 - no longer... blown tranny
Yes winnie is in NH
I road around the southern side of winnie and entered Maine near Wolfsboro
My rant was mostly about the really broad open highways some had 10 mile stretches of 35 MPH.
CT and Mass not much better with the many small roads at 35 for miles.
Does a tourist board have anything to say
The area I covered did not have interesting roads for riding, that coupled with the revenue gathering LEO's just made Southern Maine not on my recommended riding list.
