Well, I have to say it was worth the wait to get the 1199. I got the base, happy to save the $5,000 to put toward termi slips and perhaps sometime soon, an aftermarket rear shock. I think the front 50mm marzocchi shock is better than the ohlins on the S model.
Put 350 miles down yesterday up into N. NH with Tricky and his new 848. The bike flicks like a 600...the power is incredible, even though I still have to keep it under 8,000 rpms for the break-in (which is pretty much over at this point). I'm amazed at how such a powerful bike can be so nimble. Tons of room for a tall rider...I'm 6'1". The biggest pleasant surprise is that the engine runs so well at "around town" speeds. This was a big problem I had with the 1098. That engine was horrible at low speeds. Throttle response is very good in race mode. Bike came set in sport mode, which had twitchy response, and who wants to ride in sport mode anyway? In all, this bike is amazing. Need earplugs because the termis are really loud. Hope to get it to the track at some point. Will need suspension work, as it is incredibly stiff out the box.

Update now that I've completed the break-in period when the rpms can't go above 8,000. I played around a bit with it today rolling swiftly (without a wheelie crack) up to the mid-9,000s and the acceleration is crazy.

that bike looks so sweet. I cant wait to hear one in person. The power delivery must feel great. If I ever thought about getting a buddy for my beloved Tuono, that would probably be it.

Roastin' chestnuts over an open fire....kinda like all the other Ducatis LOL.
Dude...you're not kidding. I had a heat burn/rash on the backside of my right thigh from the heat radiating off the exhaust on Saturday. I did lay down a lot of miles with hours of seat time, but that kind of heat is crazy. I'm going to get the pipes that curl around under the seat wrapped with something.

That bike is sexy - congrats!
I didn't realize you were right in swampscott. I am as well. We should get our Italian girls together. I can lend a hand on your suspension too.
