30-40mph traffic. do you ride in middle lane?
"fuckit!"
i should add for a long period of time.
wtf what? i think it' sless safer than the other 2 lane. the past 2 days i'v seen yellow duc and 954 riding middle lane rt 3 for good length of time.
"fuckit!"
I usually ride (and drive for that matter) 1 lane in from the left unless I'm passing. On the motorcycle, I try to ride a little faster than the flow of traffic so 95% of the time I'm overtaking people instead of being passed. Since my mirrors are all but useless around my shoulders, I prefer to not have people sneaking up on me.

Cops ride in the left lane slightly faster than the flow of traffic because it is the safest place to be.Originally posted by ZX-12R

OK not always "slightly" faster

Kham I think your meaning is lost in a nontranslated sentance..
Are you talking highway middle lane or a single lane road?
If your talking highway and your surrounded by traffic, then I say stick in the middle so people in cages on bth sides of you have an equall amount of vision of you.
When I am on the highway I am ussually in the left/passing lane but I stick to the right side of that lane so people in cages in front of me are more likely to see me because I will be on the edge of the lane they are in. If you were in the middle of the lane and they wanted to switch lanes and only did a quick glance their eye may not make it far enough across the lane to where you are and possibly think nobody is there..
Not on a single lane road I am usually in the middle of the lane unless I see a car ahead in the opposite lane trying to turn left across traffic. I will stay to the laft of my lane to make myself more visable to that driver, otherwise sticking in the middle dircetly behind another car may hide you from that car about to turn.
Same goes if I see a side street approaching on the right hand side and a cge about to enter traffic, I will then switch to the right side to make myself more visable.
Now if you have both going on at once, (Cage waiting to cross your lane, and a car wanting to enter your lane into your traffic path) I will remain in the middle of the lane but back off of the cage in front of me to make room so you have a better chance of being seen and to give you space in case you have to brake if those cages did not see you...

I rode Rte. 3 middle lane last night - people in the slow lane are too slow and people in the fast lane are too fast - the middle lane was just right - a guy on a gray bike came up beside me in the fast lane and we were both doing about 85 up to Billerica - trying to beat the thunderstorm home (made it)!Originally posted by Kham

*Gratuitous Rant*By the way, I hate when cagers just have to make some dumbass comment - I stopped at a convenience store 1 minute from my house to pick up cat food and the t-storm was just about to hit. As I'm getting on my bike, a guy is like,' "He, it's gonna rain, you better hurry." - Well, thanks a lot Dick Albert, Bill Nuy the f'n weather guy - a-hole!
oh yea. highway whole middle lane, not single lane. there are cars on both sides. some on cell phone and some are blonde on cell phone. i can see the next on ramp, the right lane slows down due to cars entering so some dumpshit on cell phone didn't pay attention and can't stop in time. she sees little spot in middle lane in her mirror but not you becuase you'r right beside her. wham!Originally posted by Half Squid

If you're not passing everyone, you're riding too slow. It's that simple.![]()
In middle lane, stay to left of center. In left lane, stay to right of center. Maximize conspicuity.

Kham are you talking at all about which 1/3rd of the lane you are riding in? (Center of lane, left track, right track)
The center 1/3rd is most likely to have oil, coolant, etc..
The outer 1/3rds where the car tires roll are cleaner but may have ruts (e.x. Rt. 2).
IIRC MSF says if you're overtaking a car you want to be in the 1/3rd of the lane closest to the car? This keeps you out of their blind spot the longest?
I would also recommend riding on 2 wheels rather than 1, your headlight will help people see you.![]()
quote myself. "highway whole middle lane, not single lane." 3 lanes highway traffic with cars on left/right lanes. basically you'r in the middle sitting duck.
"fuckit!"
basicallly the person was not passing anyone. cars on left lane was passing. i think it just a bad spot.
"fuckit!"
Whether it's the far right lane or far left lane, I NEVER ride in any middle lane of a highway. Too many idiots in cages can't make up their minds or properly operate their vehicles, especially when you're approaching a split/merge...

If there's traffic, I try to stay in the left lane, unless I'm letting someone pass.
In the middle lanes you've got cars that can swipe you from either side. In the right lane you've got cars merging and exiting. Left lane is the least "busy."

if i feel like going slow then i stayed on the right lane. sometimes i slow down enough for some space in front to pop a wheelie.
do you notice most people entering highway just go right into middle lane even there are not passing anyone.
"fuckit!"
When I'm riding in light traffic I travel in the middle lane, I find it usually has the best pavement and offers escape routes to both the right and the left.
In heavy traffic I don't like the middle lane, cars to both sides of me gives me a feeling of claustrophobia, so I tend to stay in the left or right lanes depending. Doesn't really matter since the lanes are all going the same speed anyway (WHY DON'T YOU MASSACHUSETTS FUCKTARDS GET THIS STAY IN YOUR GODDAMN LANE YOU FUCKING FUCKS AND WE'LL ALL GET THERE FASTER)
Of course, option C is best....screw the highway, take the backroads...
oh yea? my estimate is 1 to 5 NH traveling rte 3 to work in MA.:

Yeah, what he said - until the part about the FUCKTARDS (Funny, I usually say something similar when I see NH plates on Route 3 or worse, on 4/225 - and I can't even get out of my damn street onto it half the time because of all the NH drivers hogging my roads...)Originally posted by Honclfibr
