This seems to be the forum for 2stroke questions.....
Just got my refreshed motor back - new cranks, cylinders, heads and pistons. Woohoo. Break in will have to wait until next season, looking for some tips-
-For winter storage the book recommends a tablespoon(?) of oil in to the each cylinder and a couple cranks to distribute the oil. Anything else I should be doing?
-I have 1-2 gallons of fuel (VP leaded stuff) that's probably 5-6 years old. VP claims it will last 7 years but I'd rather buy a fresh can in the spring. Can I mix this in my car without killing my catalytic converter?
-Would it be better to start the motor and heat cycle a few times now rather than waiting until the spring?
-How do you know if a crank sitting on a workbench is done or still has some mileage remaining?
I would do some heat cycles now so you know it is good to go in spring. Also, this will coat the surfaces of the crank thoroughly in oil. If you don't do this, I guess there is a possibility that any dry internal surfaces could develop surface rust if any moisture is present?
No idea about car catalytic convertors, I used old C12 as a degreaser!
Measure side play and radial play on a used crank and compare to factory service data.
Don't run leaded gas in your car, you'll kill off the O2 sensors in VERY short order and will shorten the life of your cat.

Towns usually have a collection day once a year at a highway department. Call your town hall for info. I thought cities have a pick-up service or drop-off point like they would with couches or grilles, and you pay a fee.
Otherwise donate it to someone with a lawn mower? Save it for enthusiastic fire starting in the spring? Couldn't take that long to burn through a gallon one solo cup at a time.
