Got hit on my scooter this morning. Guy stopped, and I got his info.
Obviously scooters don't carry insurance. Any idea how I'd file a claim? Directly with his insurance? My bike is trashed, but I'm not so worried about that. I fucked up my shoulder and knee pretty good, so I'd like to not be on the hook for the bill for that.
I imagine it's the same as getting hit on a bicycle, or as a pedestrian, but I don't know how that works either.
Any help is appreciated!
Yes, call his insurance. Be prepared to follow that up with a call to a lawyer.

Damn. That's what the google machine is telling me too.
Also, schedule a check out by your dr asap. When you tell them what happened, they will probably suggest you seek emergency care immediately, just in case. But if you didn't hit your head or have any internal pains, probably go to your dr to get checked out and most importantly get it on the books. Do not say too much to the insurance company as that discussion IS being recorded. Tell them briefly what happened (pretty much "your client ran over me"), that you have pain, and you are going to your dr to get checked out. Ask for a claim number and say no more.

scooter is still a motor vehicle. proceed as you would with any other motor vehicle.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

unless you’re/I’m doing anything illegal, i’m calling the police to get a report filed for supportive documentation just in case.

moped
A moped must have an automatic transmission, an
engine capacity that doesn’t exceed 50 cc and can
not go faster than 30 miles an hour. A moped needs
a registration sticker from the Registry of Motor
Vehicles to operate on the roads, and can be parked
on a sidewalk.
limited use
The new law that takes effect July 31 includes
an additional category of two- to three-wheeled
vehicles, called “limited use” vehicles. These vehicles
can go faster than 30 mph and reach a top speed
of 40 miles an hour. Unlike mopeds, these vehicles
need to meet federal safety certification, be titled,
inspected, insured and registered with the RMV
which now has a distinctive plate for limited use
vehicles. An operator of a limited use vehicle must
have a driver’s license unless it is federally certified as
a motorcycle, then a motorcycle license or permit is
required.
motorcycle
A two- or three-wheeled cycle that goes faster than
40 miles an hour can be registered as a motorcycle.
An operator needs a motorcycle license to operate,
and the motorcycle must meet federal safety
certification for a motorcycle, be titled, insured,
inspected and registered with a motorcycle plate.
The Registry of Motor Vehicles announced in July
that moped operators whose vehicles now meet
limited-use requirements will be required to insure,
title, register and inspect their vehicles when their
current moped registration expires.

You are basically a bicycle, and must follow all the rules of the road with minimal exceptions.
Having a lot of friends hit on their bikes. You should call the cops immediately and then call their insurance company with the police report. As stated above, SAY ALMOST NOTHING on the scene and to the insurance company. Ideally it doesn't go to court, but if it does, you can bet your ass they will use anything you say or do against you.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
File a police report asap!
