Motion pro chain tool

I broke pins on my motion pro chain tool, they are shown as 290 and 380 in the case. Online all I can find is 3mm and 4mm. WTF?

I tried converting .290" to mm and it wasnt even close. Never considered cm.

millimetre is easier to use, but it sounds like they're just rounding up to make things more simple. why they would use both numbers is strange.

I have the Cyclegear/Stockton knock-off of the same kit and it lists the pins at 2.2mm, 2.9mm, and 3.8mm for cam chain, 420 chain, and 428 thru 630 chains.

P/N for the 3.8mm breaker pin is 422238

I suspect it's a 4mm hole that the 3.8mm pin is for.

As someone who grew up correctly (i.e., with the metric system) the notion of using centimeters to measure something <1cm is stupid. That's why we have mm, for fuck's sake. Be better.

But in this case, from the photo above, it looks a lot like there is a very small 'dot' of plastic after each initial digit. I could see how they get missed though.

i've had some recent discussions with them and their engineers on a kit i bought that wasnt designed/advertised properly.

why they didnt just round up and say 3mm, 4mm, 5mm is just strange. maybe someone took them to court saying it wasnt accurate or something.

Tip for not breaking pins. Grind the rivet flat before you press, amateurs. :-)

that was my fault for not tightening the filters enough. ever since then, i torque them to 16.5 ft/lbs per spec. never an issue since.

i dont break my pins. i did have one get messed up from a novice borrowing my tool though. cross threaded the tools and everything.

removing the tank off is a PITA, but man it's clean under there. got all new clips to secure and route things properly. did tap & die on most of the bolts, then greased/antiseized them before torquing them. it's got a solid foundation.
