+1. Just for shits and grins, ride all three (Tiger 800 roadie, 800 XC, and Explorer). You might find that the 800 is plenty, or you might like the comfort of the Explorer. Or you might find that you like the bigass dirt bike feel of the XC (it's fun as hell on pavement, it's plenty comfortable for long distances, and it's an awesome dirt road bike).

Man, that R1200GS Adventure in Olive Green Matte is all kinds of utilitarian nerdy sex.

Just fucking get it over with and do it...
..then let me ride it.
Won't be for a while. MSRP on the new GS-A is $18,400. All the dealerships in NE list them for $22,045. I'll wait a bit for them to drop. Plus the KTM still has some teething issues to work out.
Besides, gotta thin out the stable first.

I'd guess the higher dealer prices are due to all the extra options they like to throw in when ordering bikes. You rarely ever get a base model BMW off the showroom floor.
Yeah, good point. Unfortunately you can't see what options there are for what price on the BMW website.

Have you ridden a Tiger? Take one for a rip. I rented a 1050 out in San Francisco and loved it!

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Triumph has really repositioned that bike. It was introduced with a 17" front with the upright riding position, high exhaust and luggage options of an "Adventure bike." But in reality it was a tall sporty bike in Adventure drag.
Since then, they have renamed it the Tiger Sport and marketed it as what it actually is. I put lower Renthal bars, sporty tires and upgraded the suspension with Penske stuff, so I was headed in the same direction and it's a terrific bike. Just when I was searching dealer stock, a used black 2008 with ABS and luggage popped up: a bargain.
I couldn't ride an SV any more due to my knee, so I looked at and rode most of the tall bikes DL650, Tiger 800, R1200GS, and R1200R. I belong to Yankee Beemers and a lot of those guys have other Euro bikes. None of them are as reliable as the average Japanese bike: it's not even close. My eyes were really opened when I rode an R1200 GSA and commented to the owner that I like the suspension: he'd spent a fortune to remove the electronic shocks. BMW and Ducati have very powerful branding, though.
Planned to sell the DL650A and a funny thing happened when I took off the engine guards and luggage. Losing 30 lbs up high made it feel a lot quicker and more agile: once again proving that there is no one single "best bike." Because while the 1050 is a lot quicker than the middleweights, the clutch is heavier, it generates a lot more heat, the mpg is substantially less in traffic, the headlights aren't as good, etc.
FWIW the Tiger Explorer has a lot more power than the Tiger 1050: and is slower.

Yeah, but that's a measly 'middleweight' based on a girls bike.

It's what I got, yo.
At the risk of going full retard.. I have my eye on these as an upgrade:
Obligatory ADVRider thread is here.
...Not sure a 650cc girls bike can tow that much though. May have to wait 'til I can afford to upgrade to a big boy bike.
Oh damn. Maybe I can rape somebody on the factory duc bags and snag those.
Chippy likey.

I put Trax on the Tiger. Not as strong as Jesse but lighter.
My latest moto obsession is the BMW S1000R.

They have a "Comfort seat." And a kit to make the footpegs adjustable.
I have an appoinment with the doc to see if I get a knee replacement will I get back more range of motion in flexion. Right now I can bend it to 75-80 degrees. Cycle Ergo says with the comfort seat I'd be at 81.....

I keep having this crazy thought of trading my Speed for a Tiger...

I've got a Tiger 800 and I think it's a great bike for what it is but even I'll admit it's not in the same league as that KTM.
