Holy shit! Videos like that make me realize I'm doing it fucking wrong.
Guy lives in New Zealand too? Some guys get the luck and the looks.
That video is awesome, and there's no doubt that the 1190 Adventure R is an amazing bike, but you have to remember it was being ridden by an excellent rider.
Here's what a pair of excellent riders can do with a Tiger 800 XC (the whole video is great, but if you want to skip to the most relevant section, it starts at 9:10).
And for that matter, a good rider can even make a huge overweight pig like a Yamaha Super Tenere look good offroad.
I'm not saying I'm not lusting after an 1190 Adventure R as well, just that the video could be a little misleading.
Edit: While we're on the topic, a good rider even makes a Triumph Scrambler look like a blast offroad. Looks like a bone stock bike (including tires), aside from the Arrow exhaust which is an official Triumph accessory.

Anyone know if the KTM 1190 Adventure (non-R model) comes with the ESA standard? The website makes no mention.
I want the 19" front rim of the standard model since I don't do much of anything for off road. My want of big suspension in the R model comes from the absolutely horrendous paved road conditions in my town that I have to deal with on every single ride. There isn't any acceptable 21" tires out there for use on sporting purposes IMO.

The April '14 Rider magazine states that it's standard.

I checked them both out yesterday. They all had center stands.

I might swing by Freedom Cycle to grab a couple small bits for the CBR within the next few days, but that's mostly just my excuse to stop by and drool all over their KTM 1190's. I've been a fan of the 990's, and man do I want an 1190 R.

Ktm dealer in portsmouth has 2. Non R, one black, one orange. He said I could have one for 3 children.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

I was thinking that for me, it feels bad enough to swap a $2500 bike into the trees and rocks, never mind whatever that one costs (on my budget; ymmv)
I get it that the OP doesn't intend to use it for that purpose, I'm just talking about what that video shows
(honk if you're old enough to remember Tommy Norton winning the Blackwater on a 125!)
I have no intention of riding off road like that with it. MAYBE some rough maintained roads once in a while, but 95% street. Problem being, the paved roads I ride every day are rougher than even moderate dirt roads.

Heard on the radio this AM that many towns and cities across northern New England are reporting having spent 2-3x their projected budgets for road maintenance this winter and are planning to make up that by reducing spending on road improvements this summer.
Fugly Adv things ftw!
I've been in the same house in the country for 25 years. Never seen potholes this bad; its a joke, definitely choosing longer routes to avoid certain roads. Hope I don't lose a street bike front wheel in one this spring...
Mother of gawd!
I'm not saying you won't get a better deal if you wait till late season or the end of the season but based on trends for sales the last couple of years most people are paying MSRP or very close.....at least from what I read on ADV. Folks have saved a bit here and there but not much.
That being said I bought my 08 in spring 09 and I got a pretty good deal (At BMW of cambridge) but I think things have changed a lot since then.

The more I see and read about the 1190 ADV, the more I like. While I think spending $16,000 on a motorcycle is frickin' insane, I would somehow completely understand. Much more svelte in person than I had expected. Yay for V-twins!
