Suzuki 650cc, forgot what year the guy told me it is, new front tire and rotor, all maintenance/service up to date, etc. Asking $1000 for it (a guy at work has it for sale). Gotta find out the year and mileage today.

Looks like a weeping head gasket.

650 single? Savage? Very low seat height. Easy to ride. Slow.

assuming it's a savage; single cyl engine, low seat height, peppy. downside is top speed, vibration, slower turn speeds. look for the usual, leaking seals, buring oil poor up-keep, honda ft 500 is a better single as is the srx 600. even a kawa 550 (kx or gpz) is a better model that you won't outgrow and will keep up while still being easy to ride. i know it's a short list and there are PLENTY of cycles that fit the bill.... depends on what you want, are willing to fix or have fixed. As always I think condition is the determining factor in price.

When the guy first told me about it and said Suzuki 650, I was so hoping he was gonna say SV.

You can't race that thing, so what's the point of wasting $1000?

sv's are brand new hawks (which makes them a great bike, but nowhere near as cool )

Sounds cool. I am not sure when I am actually going to be purchasing a bike as I have to save up for a bit. While doing so, I'll be taking the state offered safety class. If I can pass that, I automatically get my license. Then I figure in a couple seasons, once I am more comfortable riding, I may make the investment of something new. For now I just need something to tool around on.

safety course is def the way to go. the hawk would be a good bike for a year or 2 depending on your riding habits. then you'd likely want to get something with power (like a superhawk! )

looks clean, and sounds like a good way to get into motorcycling

I don't recommend any of the older bikes linked to above...for a new rider, a mechanical nightmare can either get you killed or make you hate bikes forever

Buying an SV would be one thing, but buying that belt driven monstrosity in that pic would be a waste
