Best Motorcycling in the Northeast

Thumbs up Best Motorcycling in the Northeast

Fellow Northeast Riders have spent the last 3 years creating a "Best Motorcycling in the Northeast" website as a way of giving back to the Motorcycling Community. We ask nothing in return, this is not B.S. marketing ploy, etc. This site lists the best roads, scenic views, restaurants, places to stay, and things to see for motorcyclists for the entire Northeast from Pennsylvania to Newfoundland. Included are Google Maps, GPS files, and Streets & Trips files: http://www.newenglandriders.org/Best...NewEngland.htm

We also have another section with rides: http://www.newenglandriders.org/Grea...ycle_Rides.htm

and another with the best weekend trips in the Northeast: http://www.newenglandriders.org/NER%20Weekends.htm

In my opinion, this is by far the best motorcycle site for Northeast Riders. I use it all the time. Please use it with our compliments.

I haven't looked at the site yet, but I wanted to say thank you for the effort in compiling this info and getting it to us. I seem to be stuck on the roads near my home mostly and new and exciting roads is something I need to explore. So, thanks!!

Thanks Ed! I recognized a few of my favorites on the list and will have to explore those I have not yet traveled.

It's obvious that a lot of work went into the effort, but I'll bet it was a lot of fun too.

There are great roads throughout the Northeast. Give some a try and I think that you will be pleased.

Hi Dan. There are some great roads on the site that are not too far from you. I love this ride off season:
I love the little back roads through Boxford. http://goo.gl/maps/wrfq0

Re: Best Motorcycling in the Northeast

I've got a few additions for the Quebec section.

Rt 155 between Lac St Jean and Mauricie National Park
Rt 381 between La Baie and St Urbain (I think this is one of the very best roads east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason Dixon Line)
Rt 389 between Baie-Comeau and Manic 5 (it continues to be awesome all the way to Labrador, and then as Rt 500 all the way to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, but much of that is dirt -- by the way, might be good to advise people to top off gas in Baie-Comeau because there's none available again till Manic 5)
Rt 299 between New Richmond and Ste-Anne-des-Monts (through the interior of the Gaspé Peninsula)

Also, it might be worth noting that the road through Mauricie National Park has a ridiculously low speed limit (and the park police don't have a lot of tolerance), and many of the corners are blind because of dense brush growing on the sides of the road. Also, lots of wildlife. So while it looks really enticing on the map, it's not a good road for peg-scraping.

Also, additions for the Best Restaurants section:
The Gables Inn, Stowe, VT (owned and operated by fellow NESRian ranette -- only open for breakfast, but it's a hell of a good breakfast!)
    Birdseye Diner, Castleton, VT
King Arthur Flour factory cafe, Norwich, VT (great sandwiches and desserts)
Burger Barn, Jeffersonville, VT (seasonal; amazing selection of really tasty burgers)
ADK Cafe, Keene, NY (great food all around, including the best Reuben sandwich I've ever had)
Clare & Carl's, Plattsburgh, NY (awesome little swaybacked hot dog shack that invented the Michigan Dog, a local favorite, eons ago)

It's been at least 40 years since I've been there, didn't even remember the name, but I do remember the Michigan Dog

Re: Best Motorcycling in the Northeast

Thanks! There's a bunch of roads that I can add to my weekend rides.

I don't have a GPS (yet), but it sounds like they (Garmin, Tom Tom) haven't identified paved vs dirt surface. The adventure bike (and dual sport) marketing pictures and videos look amazing, but I have no clue where these roads are.

Garmin's BaseCamp and Mapsource are pretty good at knowing paved from dirt.

Good to know. Can Garmin's software create a route that prefers dirt roads?

It can create a route that avoids dirt roads, but not one that prefers dirt. When you use Garmin software, paved roads are solid and dirt roads are dashes. It is pretty easy to see the difference.
