So I just moved to MA from AZ, Looking forward to the upcoming summer since in az you ride year round as opposed to here where you have to wait to enjoy your motorcycle. But I think Ive run into a road block.
I have an 06 sv 650s and was looking to get it tittled and registered. But ran into
http://www.mass.gov/rmv/titles/14oost.htm
and
http://www.mass.gov/rmv/titles/11salinsp.htm
I have a salvage title for my bike. The original owner had the s model with full fairings. Dropped it twice and destroyed the fairings. Not a big deal for an Sv. You can take the fairings off and suddenly you have a "Naked" Sv
But now I'm looking at this Salvage Title inspection deal and its asking for insurance paperwork and receipts . Im thinking wtf. I dont have these things. I bought the bike "as-is" and its in relativity great shape. Am I supposed to restore my bike back to its original condition before I can title it? Seems kinda nuts since Sv's are great for noobs who will no doubt drop and break them a few times and they handle it really well.
Any advice would be appreciated. Right now I'm a bit sad that it might not be possible to keep my bike here legally.
Are you already registered and plated in AZ?

As long as you already have the Salvaged Title I don't believe you need to go through that process.
That process is only for bikes that have been crashed and totalled and have not have a Salvaged title issued yet.
If you don't already have a salvaged title then spydah is the winner... track bike!
In Ct you can reg a salvage bike as long as it passes inspection,ie all the lights work an stuff. Wouldn't think Mass is that different.

Mississippi...63-21-39.... just saying... but seriously, I believe that ScubaSteve is correct. At least that is how it reads in VT. Same requirements unless it already has the salvage title. I've registered enough salvage vehicles, never had an issue.
Have the bike plated and registerd in az. Ill try and run it through down at the RMV. If it doesnt work out it will be track bike. Would suck though since I already have a bike for that exact purpose.

Thanks for the replies
You may be ok since it's registered. Don't bring the title just bring the old reg and see where that gets you.
If you do need to get a rebuilt title it's not too bad if you have an insurance report that only lists some bodywork as reason for salvage. Everything on the insurance report needs to be replaced with receipts and you can get a rebuilt.

Unless the bike was yours when it was totalled, theres no way for you to get the insurance info. i went through that in nh with(ironically, an az sv) they wanted the list if damaged stuff from the insurance but thats impossible. i was lucky enough to have the name of thd insurance co and when i called to get the info they said they couldnt give it to me. i live in a different state than you and my sv was never reg'd.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

If you can't figure out a way to get it registered in Mass, just register it in Vermont. You don't need to be a resident to register a vehicle here. My friend Henning (who lives in the NYC area) has a bike in Germany with Vermont plates.

Don't forget the wonderful law that passed yesterday, its gonna cost you $5.00 just to walk in the door at any RMV in MA.
I've been dealing with salvages for a while, and as long as it has been registered after the repairs were made and you got the title in hand you should be able to register it no problem....good luck though because they're usually not nice at the DMV

If your bike is/was currently registered in AZ bring that reg to the RMV and say nothing about the salvage title

General rule of thumb is, don't put it off, because the RMV requirements WILL be stricter tomorrow. If I were doing this, I'd try first with just the old registration. If that doesn't work, then I'd go back the next day with the old title and try again. Take something to read while you stand in line. Practice breathing exercises or other calming techniques. Check wait times on line before you go. Avoid Mondays and Fridays and closing times.
My recent story: went in to get a new title for an old bike with an out of state title transferred to me, but marked "antique vehicle" -- they didn't believe it was a bike, told me that that antique vehicles are cars. Also it may not matter what you paid for it when it comes to sales tax, they will tax on the NADA value (if it is higher). So be prepared for anything. It's 'way better than the old days, though.
And don't believe everything you think.
Just read my story man

The bike I purchased has an out of state salvage title as well, so you will go though the same process that I had to. And God help you if the bike is naked. My state trooper inspector sent me home b/c I didnt have my plastics on the bike, I hope you have better luck!
