Gary Eagan (sounds familiar) set a new Iron Butt Record, from the road furthest North in Alaska to the Southern Tip of Florida in 100 hours. 9011 kilometers!
And he got run off the road by a truck in Alaska and finished the ride with a messed up bike & some injuries!

Bras cause cancer.
Mr Eagan says he endured suspicious border patrol agents, traffic snarls and torrential thunderstorms but completed the trek without any speeding tickets.
"You don't have to really ride that fast to do a record like that. You just have to stay on the bike and be efficient," he said.
so going the speed limit is considered efficient?????

Mystery Squid beating that 100 hrs is a sure thing......![]()
I got $20.00 that says you can do the trip quicker..... if you are less efficient![]()

It's more efficient to ride at a comfortable speed.
- Better gas mileage
- Less fatigue
That way you end up stopping less. Stopping as infrequently as possible is key to those long trips.
I think "obeyed the speed limits" is probably BS though. It is lip service to the rules. Reading some of the Iron Butt books, they admit to speeding sometimes.
