Hey just traded in my 2002 Ninja 500R for this 2003 Triumph Daytona 955i converted to a Speed Triple(McBiggity's former bike). This doesn't look quite as nice as a Speed Triple cause the radiator is too big and the engine isn't painted as nice, but it has the 150hp of the Daytona instead of the 130HP of the Triple so it's forgiveable. The Daytona/Triple also has fuel injection and because of that a gas light instead of a reserve petcock which is nice. It also has a similar range to the Ninja with a 5.3 gallon gas tank and 45mpg average if your nice on the throttle.
This bike is great lots of fun handles really well. It has a 0-60 very comparable to the Ninja 3.7 seconds vs 3.5 seconds, but the 1/4 mile time is very far apart 10.6 seconds vs 12.7 seconds.(Daytona numbers so the naked triple conversion may be a bit slower than this). It's not quite as easy and flickable as the Ninja as it's a bigger heavier bike, with much wider tires, but the handling is good and very solid. It also has the Daytona seats so they are a bit hard compared to the cushy Ninja seat, but nothing that is too bad. The riding position because of the higher bar Speed Triple conversion is great and could do highway riding for hours on this thing. It goes much better than the Ninja on the highway 60-80 roll on is 4 seconds and the same for 80-100 roll on. It has a just about flat torque curve from 4krpm all the way to redline so as long as you keep it above 4k you can roll the throttle on at any speed in any gear just about and go. Has the same redline as the Ninja at about 11krpm.
As liter sport bikes go this bike is on the slower more docile side with a curb weight heavier than most liter supersports and a more relaxed peg position and thanks to the Triple conversion a more relaxed bar position. THe torque of a 3 cylinder is also nice when in town especially since it has tall gearing and you have to be going in the very low RPMs in 1st just to keep it under the speed limit in town. One upgrade might be to drop that ratio down, but that could effect my fuel economy and speedometer reading.(more research is needed for this). Deffinately don't need a 150+ top speed. Another upgrade will probably be the horn as it sounds like a toy.
Overall happy with the upgrade, but will still miss the little Ninja.

Nice!
Looks great man. I had a Sprint ST with a very similar motor for a while and really liked it. Pretty sensible for a 955.
Must be nice to go naked in this freakin' heat.
Nice bike. Funny though, my 98 T595 Daytona has an all black engine.
Nice bike. I'll keep an eye out for you. If you see an RC51 or VFR800 following you, it's just me.

Nice score. I like that the lights turn with the bars...a big turn off to the regular trumpets for me.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
I forgot what size rear sprocket I went with when I changed the chains/sprockets over the winter, but it was up 1 or 2 from stock.
Enjoy that thing, I did for many years.
Great bike! Congrats to both parties!
Congrats! I was considering that bike too but don't have enough funds to feel secure since I'll no longer have a job once Springfield is finished being cleaned up. If you want to take a stab at tuning the bike you can borrow my TuneECU cable sometime.

And that's how. :-). Did a tune on a tiger the other day.Originally Posted by GNTurbo6

And using a codec from Tuneboy's master list is just relying on someone elses' hard work, so who's the ripoff now?

-again, nice bike. take care of it.

What? You need to re-read the earlier posts. You're all confused.Originally Posted by wesvailco
